West lake is great for kids to fish. Plenty of small bream around if nothing else. But always a chance of catching something decent in there as well.

Yeah just deceided to troll a double clutch instead of flicking powerbaits between anchor spots found they track well at a yaking pace.
Don't really care if it gets trashed that's what it made for haha.
Went to try it today for 10 minutes in the port and narrowly missed a good 40cm+ bream, bit the back of the rear treble!!!

  • My grandfather and old man saw one a few times out In the steamer channel Off Hughes. It must have been tired and looking for some dry land cause it kept trying to get in the back of the boat. They said it was huge and just about swamPed the boAt trying to climb in! Thought it must've been lost but sounds like they turn up more often than I thought.

Floating dog biscuits are the mumero uno carp bait in the UK!

Again, it would be because they are accustomed to being fed them?

Dried bread thrown on the surface rocks, as long as there are not ship loads of Ducks/swans/coots etc about.

A good tactic for fooling an educated surface feeding carp is to thread your free lined hook in and out of a piece of floating crust and with a few cms of line out of the side of the crust, attach another tiny bit of crust to the hook.

The Carp will nibble at the bigger bit breaking bits off and will eventually grab the tiny bit with the hook in it!

A long rod is handy for dapping your offering on the surface, alternatively, dip your bread briefly in the water to

add a bit of weight to swing it out to your fishing spot which would generally be tight in to a weed bed.

I've thought about it quite a bit over the years. Problems at the moment are I'm time poor & when I get time the whole family want to come, when the oldies get past clambering into the boat and with retirement racing toward me every year it's certainly a possibility in the future.

You'd better crack on then mate, I'm just retired and there ain't gonna be many fish left to catch

    at the rate I'm travelling
