Hi all,

Looking at buying a rod for shore based fishing off rocks. Looking for any advice on what to get! Fishing for sharks n big reds. Any info will help.

Cheers.

I reckon a 10 footer or so would be perfect for off the rocks. You dont want the same size rod that you would fish from the beach with, but you still need a bit of lenth to give you some leverage. If your trying to land sharks to 6 foot or so, I would think you will need a 6000 sized reel

What are you after mate spin or o/h, there are sone ripper blanks out there for custom mades in the 8-12kg in the 10ft,or there are many generic companies, live fibre do a brilliant one in both spin o/h would be nice or something like a wilson beachmaster 5120 tough as nails very stout top end. thees heaps out there and a huge price difference.Maybe even have a look at the pen sports range glass composite good price.
Id be more inclined to scrimp on the rod and spend on the reel though.
food fo thought

agree, dont spend too much on rod, spend most of your budget on a good reel.

Re:SURF ROD? 1 year, 5 months ago #118256

any preferance on brands shimano or diawa personaly i like the diawa range precision stuff and i luv my saltigas....
maybe a shimano speros in 12000 or 14000 heaps of capacity tough drag i think somewhere in the $220 $240 range or theTuff tackle Diablo in the 9000 should pay around $350 $380 tuff reel, or look at at Shimanobait runner not the toughest of drags but a good solid reel brilliant for live baiting for snaps.
hope that helps. what sort of weight and baits you look like throwing if your only fishing max 6 oz lead and pilchard maybe a 4120 blank would do if your heavyier 8 oz + and big baits whole squid then id go for 5120 or a costom rod but your gonna blow the budget...
otherthing is one peice rod or two?
