Trouble is, the only place where 'native sportfish' are native are in the Murray and few others. Callop and silvers aren't any more indigenous to small streams than trout.
The whole greenie arguement is pretty flawed a few places, apparently native gudgeons/galaxias have adapted to introduced species by living in skinner waters, where trout/redfin aren't.
The idea of illegally electro fishing a stream to get rid of all the trout is bull

, it wrecks the hard work and financial efforts that go into stocking these creeks.
Wonder how good it is for any fish to be stunned by electricity? Do the natives even survive?

Callop, silvers, catties and cod all thrive in small streams they may not get large like they do in dams and large rivers but they definately survive better than trout because they cope with the conditions better being native fish.
Electrofishing has been done for many years and with the right people doing it the survival rates are very high.
Just like everything else SA is well behind the other states with their approach to introduced species.
I know a lot of guys here fish for trout and reddies and thats fine but when you think about what we are missing out on it's a bit of a shame.
soon vic will open up upland rivers for anglers to target Trout cod which is an iconic species that has far superior fighting qualities than trout and their native and cost less to look after because they survive and thrive and don't need to be restocked every year.
thats just 1 example of the good work thats happening elsewhere that could be done in SA with different species. SA is already 10 years behind on this one do we really want to be 30 years behind?
