SAFWAA had Trevor Watts the CEO of SARFAC give us a talk on thursday the 8th July and he announced that S A Water have made Warren Reservoir available to all anglers who purchase an annual fishing permit costing $33!!!

Surely a great start to eventually freeing up more of SA's Reservoirs!
Let's give this initiative our support and if there is a lot of guys getting involved then the "flood gates" may well be opened in more of SA's reservoirs!!!

SARFAC will be in charge of issuing the permits and there looks to be quite a bit of interest already. There are Carp and redfin in there and discussions may be starting soon to start stocking natives as they do interstate. I look forward to hearing the fishing reports from Warren to see how it is going!

Note of caution: please look after this rare opportunity and don't leave litter or fishing line/ hooks etc lying around 'cos this will be just the excuse SA Water need to close down the reservoirs for ever!!

Too right Tony, they will be jumping over everything when SARFAC are lobbying against their current stance. If we don't give them any excuses then why wouldn't hey open the gate so to speak ?
Very intereseting listening to Trevor the other night, great insight into what, how and when !
Also great to see some passionate and informed responses/questions come form some of the SAFWAA members.

Just sent Trevor a "thank you" from our Group

I was quite surprised that SARFAC have no interest in joining in on Forum Discussions, I think it was because they spent a lot of time straightening out peoples misguided opinions and it all became too hard, great pity IMO.

Wonderful means of communication I have found (10 new members at the meeting the other night, almost all were off S&H )

for south para permit holders, they will get a free warren permit up until the end of the year. after that, they fall into line with the rest of us.

still a bit rich for me. as Cindy and I fish together, $66 for probably 4 visits a year will not warrant a permit.

much better value with my $70 SAFWAA family membership.

besides the fee, thoroughly enjoyed Trevor Watts talk at the SAFWAA meeting

That's an interesting fact Rick! where did you hear that mate?

I have had a permit from 2004 and wondered how they can find out if you are a existing permit holder or not?

Trevor reckons they haven't even collected all the receipt stubs in from all the various permit selling outlets

Might check out the SARFAC site and ask the question

I agree we should all fully get behind and support this!!!

Rick: i agree it is a bit rich money wise especially for 2 people for around 4 visits a year, but i look at it this way, im a very low income earner, have a mortgage to pay, bills etc. just like everyone else does but im still going to fork out the cash for a permit for not only myself but trudie aswell as i beleive that they should have opened up all the reservoirs years ago, if we all do this and the powers that be see how many permits are purchased then maybe just maybe they may become more agreeable to opening up more reservoirs. As i dont drive i may only get to fish the Warren a small number of times a year but i dont see the permit as a huge cost, more as a donation for the greater good to get things happening with this issue.

Happy Fishing All, Cheers

$20 lifetime permit for Sth Para, this one they want $33 per year (to fish 1 reservoir only.

In any other state a $22 (approx) annual licence allows you to fish all waters.

What will you get for your $33?????? Who manages the money and where will it all go??

To fish only 1 waterway and like any other Gov't money grab in this state, no return for it.

I would not even consider such a rip off.

I LOVE THE IDEA OF THE WARREN OPENING UP AND AGREE THAT WE HAVE TO SUPPORT IT, but I to will find it hard to justify the $30bucks for this reservoir.

Im feeling that it is a bit dear for one reservoir for one year. If this Res had trout stocked it may make the proposition a bit better. I think this price would be fair for Mt Bold or Kangaroo Creek but think $20 - $25 per year for the Warren is a fairer price especially with no management.

Of course the next question is who is policiing the Reservoirs for permits and how are they going to enforce the use of permits? I can see a lot of people just rocking up and fishing and then when approached by a person of Authority - just going oh I didnt know you needed a permit! But I guess they will spend quite a bit on signs on entry to the Res saying fishing by permit only.

I guess I am questioning how they chose the Warren as the next reservoir to open up?

Anyway well done SARFAC because lets face it, if you wanna fish this SA Water Reservoir you are going to have to be prepared to pay the fees. I will watch eagerly at what is caught as I suspect there will be some trout in their.

Jonno - very good point, if there were a large amount of people buying permits, it may prompt them to consider opening up more ressies under one 'sawater permit' type thing.

However, i have to agree with a few of the others... $33 for a permit to fish a reservoir that has never been stocked with anything? I know some forum regulars are absoloute redfin nuts, but this doesn't seem like such an interesting oppurtunity in that respect for me.

M1 - re; Mt Bold, stuff the redfin... you should see some of the pics of the trout and even natives i have seen from that area.

That's an interesting fact Rick! where did you hear that mate?

just before you asked your question to Trevor Watts, Tony.

pretty sure that jagger asked the question re: south para permits.

I had a re-think about the permit fee, and thought that combined with the cheap $6 mt crawford camping fee, it still would be good value for fishing trips. the advantage of warren reservoir is no need to book, and dawn to dusk fishing.

So we called in for a look today coming back from Mannum. it is a huge area allocated for fishing with easy access to the banks.

not a lot of structure, and the water looked the same quality as what is in the river murray at the minute.

only a short walk from the carpark

some of the allocated fishing area
