Well we headed to Meningie for the long weekend with me hoping for a flick in the Coorong in between helping my father in law set up a bargain tinny he just bought.
As it turns out when we arrived he already had the tinny ship shape (sorry bad pun ) so we got it out on the water for a bit on Saturday.

The lovely morning weather was chased off by nasty grey clouds n wind by early afternoon.

In the couple of hours testing out the newly aquired boat I only managed one small Salmon Trout on soft plastic. So when back on terra firma we headed for Narrung to try for Carp in the lake next to the ferry.

I have never fished for carp before but had a hankering for something more than the little ST caught earlier in the day. I had a curried egg sandwich that was duly sacrificed for bait on an unweighted hook on 6lb braid and leader .

I have read posts on S&H about carp and how they "smash" bait but I found that my line was slowly taken up by a fish that I presume was sucking at the bait. When I noticed this I let the line go for a bit then sunk the hook and... Yee Frickn Haa... hold on ! Man these fish go like a freight train .
The first fish I landed was 65cm and had me up to one knee in black stinky mud retreiving it, and my thong I left behind

In the next 2 hours I caught another 3 fish, the biggest going 70cm! 2 others broke my line and the hooks pulled out of 2 others after a good few minutes fight.

One of the fish landed was gut hooked.

Geez it was bloody good fun in the rain.

Yeah buzza I normally find they are slower on the take, but as yo uhave done... let them go for a bit and BANG !!! sink those hooks !!

Mate, if all you had to do was sacrifice a single thong for a good fishing session then you have done well in my books !!

( as long as it the thong from your feet )

Nice pic there Booma, very artful display

Yep those carp can either sit-n-suck, or just hit the afterburners totally unexpectedly

Good value in my book

Yep they can be a lot of fun.... and they do just suck at the bait and move off - probably don't know their hooked for awhile....
