gday all, havent been on here for a while, been busy building my landcruiser ute into a weapon of mass destruction lol.

anyway, ive got a weeks holidays booked in for november (melb cup week) and am keen as mustard to get away fishing!
problem is im not sure of the best place for me to go.
im taking my boat, but it will be the 1st time ive taken it (or any boat) on the salt, just been on the river a few times.
boat is a 4.8mtr reefcraft runabout, only a lil 40hp mariner.

anyway, bein a virgin to saltwater boating i want somewhere thats calm, and so i dont have to go far from shore to catch some fish!
dont wanna go catchin anything extreme, just wanna get a few whiting, squid, crabs etc, just the basics. couple snapps be nice aswell but not wanting to venture too far out i guess my chances are slim.

please be aware im not asking for any secret drops.
just a safe boating loction for me to base my holiday with a decent chance of catchin a feed

thanks for any advice fellas!!

Firstly mate how far do u wana travel?? yorkes etc... second forget snaps as its the ban in nov. If ur looking to stay local aldinga down south is a good bet at that time of year and slightly less fishing pressure.
cheers OS

Old Salty has made a good point. How far do you want to go. That is a good time for fishing, but the down fall is November is the month of the snapper ban, so taking this into consideration it may limit your choices.

If the weather is OK Wallaroo would be good, good ramp and decent chance of catching a feed in the bay, or if you get adventurous and weather permits you can head out a bit further. No swell, mild tidal movements and the chance of catching a few decent fish make it a good place to begin your salty adventures

maybe try and take it for a few runs on the salt before you do any "big" trips mate. Build up some knowledge of your boats capabilities and limits etc .
dmn de do dah what to do lmao

I'd head to Port Hughes... great variety, winds are reasonalbe and best bit is you don't have to head more than a couple of hundred metres for all the gar, tommies, crabs, squid and whiting you can catch in a weekend. Go spearing for catties at night and crabbing during the day if you don't want to take the boat out an the jettie always worth a shot for sharks and kingies.

On the other hand.. the coorong is always a great option and fantastic camping around that time of year. Waterboy and I had a crackin session on salmon last November down there and there's some decent bream/mully action there to. You can still do day trips down there to ! Hour down, hour home.

Food for thought...

You could run the landy over to Cowel and fish Franklin Harbour. They have very good facilities and the harbour is massive. If you do land the odd snap just release. Very good adventure to have.

Also check out the current wildcoast for article on the snook in Franklin harbour.

Point Turton worthy of some consideration for a first salt adventure if you want an excuse to have a look at that part of Yorke peninsula.

afishyfish... yeah mate thats why i said it might be a little too open for me, love it there but yeah, ile wait a bit.
port hughes hey? havent considered there. ile suss it out a bit.

the coorong wouldnt be very good with the boat though would it?
inside the mouth i guess would be alrite but ive been there before (land based) and the amount of boats there was unreal, like a kmart car park the day before chrissie!!

dont know anything at all about cowel or franklin harbour, whereabouts is that? ile have to google it!
yeah ile have to start buyin wildcoast more often now i have the boat.

I would have to agree with jagger- when my old man had his first boat (100% new to boating) we went over to Pt Hughes and had a ball, didnt have to go very far out, caught plenty and if the weather is too rough for your boat then the jetty is a great 2nd option.

Ha ha You sounded adventure bound. We went last year and yeah it is a long way to tow. But check it out some time if you get a chance. I think alot ofpeople hit Arno bay rather then cowel now a days but we love cowel

Port Victoria might be okay then. Plenty spots to check out and wardang island is great area to test the sounder
