TOPIC: Trailer tyre pressure

Trailer tyre pressure 1 year, 5 months ago #116939

Have read through previous posts re tyres but found nothing re tyre pressure.

I have a Dunbier trailer with 5.00 - 10 tubed tyres. Made in China. Cold tyre pressure imprinted in the wall is 76 PSI. No way!!

The originals, also made in China had 43 PSI. I still think that's too high considering they would go to around 45/46 depending on distance and speed.

Any thoughts please.

I run light truck tyres on my rig (860kg).

I started with high pressure (55psi) but found the thing bounced all over the place at such a high pressure, so I started releasing pressure (5psi at a time) until I finally found a pressure which provided quite a good ride.

I found that to be about 40psi for me, but I'm sure it's different for each setup.

I'd suggest you try the same, but just be careful not to take the pressure too low, as that can lead to heat build up and a subsequent blowout.

Also, just beware of some tyres which come on Dunbier trailers. There were issues with some of them blowing out, and I think you'll find a post about it somewhere here if you do a quick search.

Normaly I run 8 ply tyres at 45 > 50 psi any lower they flex too much and eventually blow out.

What ply are those tyes B@K

8 ply Moggy.

I was thinking around 40 PSI. The total weight around 300 Kgs.

Yes, I read through that post Ranger - not pleasant reading.

The brand on these tyres -sourced through Dunbier are 'Journey'. The originals 'Whale'.

Thanks for the advice.

Brian.

You can only try Brian, cause you don,t what the quality of the tyre is.

Time will tell

You're right Moggy - thought 76 PSI was a tad high though.

40-42 I reckon. Originals had plenty of tread with little wear in the centre but scrubbed on the inside. Tyres had 26 when I bought the unit, so I think that tells the storey.

Thank you.
