TOPIC: SMSFish and other Fisheries information

SMSFish and other Fisheries information 1 year, 7 months ago #109084

Hi guys,

I'm interested to hear how many of you have used, or are making use of our SMSFish service.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, SMSFish is the mobile text service we set up last year to provide rec fisheres with another way of accessing the up-to-date fishing rules and regulations in place in South Australia.

Simply by sending a text message to the SMSFish number 0427 767 995 with the species name that you are targeting, you will then receive an immediate return message with the minimum legal size, bag and boat limit, along with any information on closed seasons that relate to that particular species.

Also, I'm very interested to get your views on how useful our other Fisheries communications materials are such as the Rec Fishing guide and the Fisheries website.

We want to make sure we are providing rec fishers with the information they require in the format they want it. So if you have any suggestions on other ways Fisheries can communicate with Rec Fishers that we are not yet doing, I'd be very keen to hear them.

Cheers,

Dave Primer

Nope!
But thats not to say I would hesitate to to use it if ever the need arose.
Personally, I like the idea

"THANKS FOR CALLING SMSFISH-THIS SPECIES IS NOT IN OUR DATABASE, PLEASE CHECK THE SPELLING OR CALL FISHWATCH ON 1800065522(24 HOUR HOTLINE...)

maybe they are not called australian salmon perhaps?

The way the system works is by simply sending the fish name alone - nothing else. Try again by simply putting: Australian Salmon - you should get an appropriate response.

Each text is free too by the way.

Thanks for the heads up about Port Jackson Shark. I've now added it to the SMSFish database, however no size, bag or boat limits apply to this species. But at least next time someone will get the appropriate response.

Cheers,

Dave
