TOPIC: Razor Fish

Razor Fish 1 year, 5 months ago #117375

Hi Folks
Just hoping to get a question cleared up that keeps coming up at work, which is.

When taking razor fish are we allowed to harvest the hearts and dispose of the shells at sea?

I had a quick look using the forum search function but i couldn't see any similar questions having been posted previously. Cheers in advance of any responses.

Thanks for the question.

Mutilation at sea regulations do not apply to species with no size limits.

As size limits do not apply to razorfish, they are able to be disposed at sea, however we'd encourage people to exert common sense in not disposing of shells anywhere people, in particular children, may wade.

Also have heard that disposing of the shells at sea actually kills the razor fish bed steralising it for years

Shelling should be done in a different area to where you got them

A good example of this is davenport creek it has taken 6 years to see small razories coming back on one ground where the locals told me a heap of people of a particular nationality shelled hundreds on that well known bed and it killed the ground and weed.
