yer i guess i depends on what you want to throw weight wise and bait wise theres heaps of gear out there for the job most as good as the next just depends on how much you want to spend.
i still hav my first surf rod silstar 11'6" mid winch and have fihed it with a baitrunner6500 its ideal for the surf hard as nails but have had a couple of 13 ft and a 13'6" coorong special built that can throw whole trout and 8oz a mile a real pelican stick.
all food for thought.
im with mully madness on this one

hey guys its still ae bit early yet and they wont be far way if we actualy get some fresh water flowing down there it will go off' there might be the odd fish floating around down therebut with so much bait st and mullet it would be hard to temp them and the seals at the mouth well live bait out there its a waste of time.
I have heard of and seen a few good fish off the southern adelaide beaches in the past 2weeks before the blow but the will b there hot on the heels of the trout schools, wonder if anybody fished the mouth of the onka with the fresh water runnoff could well be worth a try now that the breamwill be heading in.
I fished saltcreek tuesday and scored one keeper 97 cm and heaps of trout.

Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting a new reel or possibly even a couple.. I've had my eye on a Penn 950ss and daiwa gs-9.. I would like to use them for both surf fishing and snapper, any opinions on which would be best? Or even if you could suggest something else around the $250 mark.. Thanks all feedback appreciated :)

G'day All

I am currently engulfed in the long drawn out process of overhauling the tinny (435 Hornet). I want to incorporate some form of rod storage down the port side, as things seem to get broken when things get heated! Also looking for peace of mind that the graphite will be safe when the chop picks up.

I was hoping someone out there has had some experience in designing/ building a rod locker.

I would appreciate advice, tips and any problems people may have encountered during the process.

Cheers

Yeah mate if you launch by trailer at a boat ramp you pay the fee. I still think my back is worth more to me than a boatramp fee though. If you use Garden Island ramp it's still free and plenty of others around the place too.

Another gem - keeping in mind the tracking survey happenning currently on the North coast of KI, have a read particularly of the third and last paras on this page link.
- The usual platitudes in relation to "threatened" species
- Talk of a land-sea link to be "facilitated by Marine Park zoning"

http://www.wilderness.org.au/articles/the-nuyts-archipelago-and-the-investigator-group-of-islands-to-become-wilderness-protection-areas/view

Watersnake - I believe it is all driven by the "armchair conservationist" ideologues unfortunately. I wonder how many Wilderness Society members own a rod, let alone a boat!

RJ - the 50% is a blatant ambit claim well in excess of the Greens (UN?) proforma benchmark. Not sure how much actual science went into even the 30%, but there`s a lot of that going around nowadays. Here`s hoping that sanity will prevail, however...

Excuse my cynicism, but make sure you all savour the next couple of years.

Off the bay now there are ruggers to 50cm,a mate got 5 last night.Follow the tips above, fish pretty light(12-15lb)with a sinker as light as possible on an outgoing tide around dusk and into the early evening and most importantly hang onto your rod, they can bite pretty light metro and sometimes need you to strip off a bit of line when you get some interest.Keep your sessions to a couple of hours and you won't get bored while your doing some ground work.
                         cheers brenton
p.s there a plenty of well known grounds that can produce a few ruggers after dark.

Not sure Lazzy, a lot of it should be clean water (fresh rain fall and also melted snow). Will also fill the back waters which should bring a few fish out of hiding as well.

Pull up the website mate - www.lmlfc.com - the poster is the first thing that pops up and C/Park contact details are on there.

nah mate, the right hand edge of the screen is what is directly under the boat, the rest is what sounder guru's call 'history'. So what I had done is drive the boat perpendicular to the channel so that I started in the shallows and ended in the deep channel proper.

travelling parallel is what most people try but data is very hard to decifer, you are better off zig zagging on and off the drop off till you find some fish- with tradition 2D sounders anyhow.

although with humminbird side image or lowrance sidescan it is possible to determine the same data travelling parallel as these units send echos out at 90 degrees either side of the boat.

I reckon Benny's right. The first one is def a carp/golfish cross and the others are wild goldfish. They are definitely not crucians, I grew up fishing for these, they are as round as dinner plates and a beautiful deep gold colour.

Goldfish are really hardy and should survive saltwater for a while before osmosis kicks in, will be a deadbait then!

Mate there was a stretch of around 200mt with a fisho every 3 metres. Few tangles but no hot heads. Just cast straight out and retrieve. Was great to see so many keen anglers, all chating, all happy.. most returning their catch, others swapping recipes... just a good environment !!

This is a fantastic but small step towards recreational access to reervoirs. Try not to focus on small details and consider the bigger picture.

The main stumbling block is SA Water's own Public Access Policies. Any precidents that can slowly dismantle these policies are a good thing.

Consider what you get for $33 these days. Maybe a meal out, 2 tickets to the movies if you go on cheap day and not even a full case of beer!

I don't know be would suspect that as SARFAC is administrating this arrangement there would be some insurance component in this fee.

Remember SA Water do not want you there, the main achievement here was that SA Water conceeded and allowed access. Stocking proposals must come later.

The argument about eastern states reservoirs are not totally relevant. While they do allow access to their many regional and irrigation based impoundments, most of their inner city and metropoliton supply reservoirs are off limits.

Very well said Featherweight.

I like these posts. We should have them all slowly opened , no matter how.
I fish in a boat in salt mostly. But I admit to fishing most sa water dams in past. Mt bold is one of the most pretty areas in the state. All the fences make me want to cry, I live and pay taxes and pay and pay. $200 water bill just in too. To be at the banks amongst the beauty, and fight with big redfin is nice. But then having to sneak out like a criminal is so so sad.
This place though is very dangerous, drunk idiots would not last long there.
Warren reservoir we could camp on the banks. I promise the water will clear in summer. But now if you fish bait, you can catch a big carp big as snapper.
Just want to share this information. I'm sorry to offend anybody but some places are too beautiful to be kept out of I'm not a bloody
terrorist.
I have sent my 33 well spent. And people leaving rubbish makes is all sick but I've carried other idiots rubbish from browns beech too

And thankyou tonyb very positive intelligent voice I like your wild coast articles.

Mate, Those "parallel thingies" are called stringers, a bit like a backbone & ribcage in a body. Remove them without shaped supports on the outside of the hull, & your hull will deform so bad it will be useless.

Hi fridge
Love the old Caribbeans
Anyhow Quaker is dead right about replacing stringers and ect.

At the moment, my son is replacing the stringers, floor and bulkheads in a Manors Craft with a tunnel
He spent the best part of a day alining the boat with chocks everywhere as there's nothing holding it together anymore.

If want to go ahead with this type of project, you need to do a Taff course down the Port as there is so much to learn.

You can ask a lot of questions on the net and u will get a lot of answers, but which answer is right.

Wish you well
