Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 01/04/2017

EASTER is getting pretty close so I will look at a special Easter edition which will come out on the Tuesday prior so people can get prepared. If anyone wants our Burley Pots or wants sinkers for the Easter break please PM ASAP. All sinkers are $8.00 per kilo except spring sinkers which are 25 Cents each due to the spring costs. Burley Pots are $25.00 for the small and $27.00 for large. They can either be picked up at Parafield gardens or sent by post for a small cost.

We have snapper leads, Swivel Bombs, Running Bean, Burley Spring, Spring Only, Star, Surf Wire sinkers in various weights from ½ OZ to 16 OZ SO BE QUICK as they are made to order!

METRO
Metro is starting to pick up with nice whiting being caught out from West Beach, Grange, Norma, Star wreck and near Black Pole. Crabs are still going strong but if the weather starts to cool off quick they will soon thin out. Squid numbers have increased around West Beach, Brighton, Grange and Semaphore with Marino doing well on calm mornings. Snook are coming from the Brighton jetty early mornings and late afternoons along with some crabs, Grange jetty has tommies a few garfish and some yellowfin whiting in the shallows, Semaphore jetty has crabs at night, Tommies and mullet in shallow, Largs jetty has crabs at night and some yellowfin whiting in shallow during big tides. Snapper have picked up with some fish being caught in the shipping channel, near Norma and John Robb, Near Grange tyre reef and out from Brighton. Garfish are around but are not biting to well during the day but better nice and early in the morning in shallow. Port river has mullet and bream with the odd mulloway being caught near the quarantine station late at night. With Pelican Point power station starting up permanently soon the mulloway will sure to return near the outlet. West lakes has bream, mulloway, mullet of the southern beach and some small rugger snapper have been caught of late. The Onkaparinga is producing some nice bream, salmon trout and a few mullet. The beaches north of Adelaide still have a few crabs for waders but it is starting to get tough. Yellowfin whiting have been caught in the channels on the follow out tide along with a few flathead. Those wading out there at night have been doing well on Flounder which is a magic fish to eat.

YORKE PENINSULA
Will do the Jetties first where Ardrossan jetty has some mulloway in the channel along with crabs and tommies, port Vincent has small tommies, crabs and some garfish no and again, Stansbury has crabs, garfish, tommies and squid, Wool bay has squid and tommies, Edithburgh has tommies, squid and whiting of the northern end, Wallaroo has crabs and squid, Port Hughes has crabs, tommies and squid. Crabs are doing well at Clinton, Ardrossan, Port Vincent, Black Point, Stansbury, Port Broughton, Wallaroo and Port Hughes. The winter Whiting are slowly moving in off Port Hughes south, Port Vic north, Wallaroo south near Walrus Rock, Hardwick Bay, Soutter, Edithburgh and Stansbury. Snook are at Port Hughes and Port Vic. Squid numbers are improving out from Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Port Vic, Pine Point and out from James Well. Snapper have finally shown up around Port Hughes, Chinamans and Port Vic but not in big numbers or size but enough to get a good feed. Port Broughton channel is starting to get some good size salmon trout and snook with some good size tommies moving in near the big bend of the channel. Snapper have been coming from the wrecks south of Broughton also. Down south there are nannies out from Wedge and Althorpes and some nice whiting south of Althorpes. Kings have been coming from the rocks south west of Hatstacks. Browns Beach has salmon and mullet. Nice mullet are now coming from Pondi, Chinaman’s Hat, out the front of the Marion Bay caravan park and off the beaches at Bulters. Salmon scholls are also at Daly Heads and a few pods have been showing up now and again off Butlers Beach.

SOUTH
Tuna are still doing well west of Victor along with some nice nannies and snapper. The guys that hired the Dorsal Fin Boat last Saturday did very well with Tuna, Nannies, Trevally and snapper and were absolutely wrapped with the boat. 2nd Valley and Rapid Bay still should have a good run of Tommies after this front along with squid. Waitpinga had some nice salmon caught late at night chucking lures near the reef and salmon trout and mullet during the early mornings. Coorong is still producing some nice mullet and salmon trout with some school mulloway being caught near the dredge.

FRESHWATER
Some nice callop came from the Blanchetown area along with some catfish (Which must be returned). Cobdogla also had some callop along with fish coming from north of Mannum. Yabbies have slowed down but you can still get a feed in some of the back-water channels. The Warren is still producing some nice Redfin using soft plastics or the good old Mepps Spinners.
