Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 18/11/2016

bjorn2fish
  • The weekend is gearing up to be great with light winds predicted for both Saturday and Sunday with good temperatures to match.

METRO
With snapper now closed till mid December it's time to get out and get those bread and butter fish like Garfish, Squid, Crabs, Snook and Tommies and there is no shortage of all. Crabs have been great around Semaphore and largs along with the Silt grounds, Black Pole and up in the northern regions from Port Gawler onwards. Jetty anglers can get a good feed during the night on good tides. Garfish are quite prolific from West Beach up to Largs but size varies. You can get better fish out deeper around the Norma is one area that does well. Also the jetties have been doing well late at night on the fast moving tide. Squid are still doing well out from West Beach and south towards Brighton and Marino. Semaphore and Largs is still a bit murky. Snook are now quite prolific along the shallow weed beds and towards St Kilda in the early mornings and late afternoons. There is still some nice Bronzies from St Kilda to the Black Pole at night and early mornings. Tommies are doing well in most areas including jetties. They are great fresh or smoked or getting them ready for the opening of the snapper opening! Whiting are still around but are starting to thin out. Late afternoons out from West Beach and early mornings out towards the Cabbage patch seem to be the best areas. The Silt Grounds have fish but vary in size.

YORKE PENINSULA
Whiting are not letting up and some great catches can be had at Port Hughes, Port Broughton, South of Wallaroo, Port Victoria, Balgowan, Chinaman's Well, Hardwick Bay and Edithburgh. I have been over the Yorkes working and have had a look around and people are doing very well on the crabs off the Wallaroo, Port Hughes jetties and dabbing out from Port Vincent, Port Julia, Black Point, Ardrossan and north of Clinton. For the boaties there are crabs in most places like Port Broughton, Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Port Vic, Stansbury, Port Vincent, Ardrossan and Price. Squid are still in good numbers at Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Edithburgh, Point Turton, Stansbury and Pine point. Garfish are in full fire out at the light from Port Hughes, Stansbury, Port Vincent, Ardrossan south, Point Turton and north of Price. Big snook are at Port Hughes and Port Vic. Some big tommies have been coming in to most areas in the Spencer including Point Turton, Hardwick Bay, Port Vic, Port Hughes and Edithburgh.

SOUTH
Rapid Bay is starting to get back to where it use to be with Tommies, Garfish and Snook doing well. Second Valley has squid and tommies, Cape Jervis has had some salmon come in on the western beach late afternoons and Parson's and Waitpinga still has small salmon which are better at night. Salt Creek is probably the place to be this weekend with the winds being light and there is some good mulloway cruising the gutters. Doing the time is the key along with checking baits regularly. Most fish have been caught during the late afternoons and into the night. With water flows coming out of the Barrages the fish have been a bit tentative in the Coorong but with big tides this weekend this should bring them back on the chew. Live mullet or salmon trout is best.

FRESHWATER
Not a lot of info this week as the river is slowly rising. Callop have been caught in the lower lakes but the river itself has been a bit slow. Hopefully when the backwaters really fill there should be some nice fish there soon.
