Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 27/10/2016

  • Well today and Friday is going to be magnificent with Saturday bringing in the northerlies while Sunday will turn back to the west south/west.

METRO
Nice size garfish are coming from West Beach up towards Semaphore, Largs and the Silt Grounds. Crabs are improving from Semaphore right up to the northern areas. There are still pods of good whiting out from Grange, West Beach and Brighton with smaller fish from the Silt Grounds and the cabbage patch. Squid can still be caught in good numbers from Marino up to Semaphore in the shallow weed areas. Snook are biting well early in the mornings and late afternoons even off the jetties like Brighton and Grange. Good size tommies can also be caught of the Grange jetty and Brighton Jetty. Late nights there are some good garfish coming off the Semaphore jetty along with some crabs. Snapper have improved with some nice fish coming off grounds west of North Haven and north out from Thompson's Beach. Yellowfin whiting have moved onto some of the beaches with some nice fish caught out from Tennyson, near the Semaphore groin, Webb beach and Thompson's. Salmon trout are still in the river along with some bream in the upper reaches and around the wrecks in the north arm. Some mulloway are coming from the quarantine station but they are not huge. West lakes still has some schoolies down the southern end and near the boat ramp off Bartley Terrace. Bream are showing up as well in both areas and near the outlet.

 

YORKES
Still plenty of whiting to be had at Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Balgowan, Port Victoria, Hardwick Bay, Turton and Edithburgh. Stansbury has a few south late in the afternoons. Squid have slowed in some areas but out from Pine Point, Stansbury, Port Vincent are doing well. There are some nice snapper coming from Ardrossan but not in big schools as yet, Edithburgh out towards Marion Reef, south of Port Vincent and Broughton. Snook are in big numbers at Port Hughes, Port Vic and in the bay at Hardwick. Salmon are still being caught from Browns Beach late in the afternoons and also some nice pods have been cruising Butlers and Daley's. Some small mulloway came from Berry Bay and Gleeson's and it shouldn't be long now before the Arm Chair to fire south of Stansbury. Port Augusta is still getting some nice kings with a big school moving in the last week or so. Whyalla has some nice snapper and squid and is looking to be a good season for a change. Charter operators working around Wedge have been doing well on big whiting and Nannies.

 

SOUTH
Mulloway have been improving off Salt Creek and is looking to be as good as last year. With the mouth fully open there should be some big fish hanging around the mouth also. Inside the Coorong there is some nice mullet, Schoolies and some salmon trout. Waitpinga has salmon trout. Rapid Bay and Second Valley has some nice tommies and a few squid and some snook late in the afternoons and night.

 

FRESHWATER
Signs are starting to show the yabbies are starting to move. Some good catches came from areas around Chambers Creek, North of Bowhill and a few in the backwaters north of Mannum. Callop are being caught in the deeper waters around near the cliffs near Big Bend, Blanchetown and North of Mannum.
