Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 29/09/2016

bjorn2fish
  • Well we have had an adventurous couple of days and the water is really stirred up is an understatement. The weekend is looking a bit breezy but there is some gaps in the weather to duck out for a fish.

Metro
Well if there is a time to get out and fish for some snapper and whiting this weekend will be the time with very milky waters indeed. Star, Grange Tyre Reef, Broadway, Breakwaters and even inside the Port River should be very productive. It will take a while to clear before the crabs, squid and tommies will come back. Port River and West Lakes should be very productive for the next couple of days.

The Onkaparinga will be productive once the water has subsided for bream and salmon trout. The Port Noarlunga jetty will have salmon and other jetties can be productive for snapper at night after this blow. Please check that the jetty is open first as they may have had some damage done to them.

Yorke Penisula
The Yorkes reall got a battering and there is still more to come. Again snapper will be coming in close at most places where there is reefy bottom or structure. Try the reef out from Port Hughes, Point Rielly and out from Edithburgh. This report came to me from Mick Wallaroo Jetty has plenty of small to medium squid with bag limits for those prepared to hit the jetty betwen 5am to 9am. Kingfish rats were breaking lines near the midway gate - closed with a ship in at the moment. Crabbers are being kept busy with good catches but about only 1 in 10 are legal keepers. Did note a large number of netters were using red meat and chicken which is a no no.

Marina is producing some nice bream on prawns and soft plastics. Tommies are few and far between. Thanks Mate. Bottom of Yorkes is pretty well a mess and Browns Beach should have plenty of salmon. Berry Bay and Daleys should have some nice gutters to fish in as well. Whiting are still biting well at most places and with the dirty water they will be in the sheltered waters in droves. Squid will be slow till the water clears but it will be worth to try the Price creek where fish will generally shelter for a while and the mouth.

South
Well this place is a train wreck but on a brighter note the Coorong is doing very well especially now the mouth is fully open. Salmon trout, mullet and some nice mulloway. Waitpinga will be well worth a go once the swell has subsided and Salt Creek will be firing again with some good deep gutter being made by the storm. You will have to wait till the weed clears though.

Freshwater
The flows will definitely increase if it hasn't already. As someone said last week small callop but you may find some nicer ones in the backwaters when the river rises more. Yabbies were still coming from the creeks and also south of Wellington.

Not much else I can tell you other than the back of the front is about to approach while I am writing this.
