power blades and soft plastics

Recommended Posts

hey guys

so ive decided after many a yr of fishing land based and offshore chasing whiting and snapper its time for a change.

ive decided to take the plunge and give power blades and soft plastics a go.

two places this week ill try will be westlakes to warm up😯

and meningie if i end up down there.

any advice on using piwer blades in these areas would be greatly appreciated.

and now for my final silly question.... with the blades is it best on a swivel or direct to braid???

im assuming small swivel but unsure.

cheers

i've found using Zman grubs in motor oil, or a similar colour works best for bream. i cast at pontoons and just let the grub sit on the bottom for 20 seconds if its not hit by then jig up it a couple times and let it sit. always been my method but if that fails try a constant slow retrieval casting at pontoons and you'll find one!

also i use the lightest fleurocarbon leader, 6lb is what i use, and i connect it using an FG knot, or even just a uni to uni.

im now trying to catch a lake mulloway on a soft plastic but having little luck so far.

Goodluck mate!

cheers jaydos

i just cam back from the lake and i tried a power blade first with no luck at all

then i moved under the bridges to escape the rain. i changed to (crank a crab) amd just drifted it past the bridge. lucky i picked up a small bream. that was.it.

last cast i hit a flounder to my surprise lol droped him half way up 😬

never in my life did i think a toy looking crab would work 😉

i must down size my braid as im using 10 pound braid

cheers forthe help and good luck on your mully hunting ☺

bream normally wont hit a lure on a leader heavier than 6 lb

if you see Bream swimming near the edge they normally see you and normally wont hit a lure .

havent used a cranka crab

plastics best ive landed 38cm bream

hardbody on bream same

Same hardbody lure got me schoolies biggest going 40cm not bad by catch

All on 6lb leader 6lb braid

Sounds like the right idea Kidney Slapper. Im currently running 8lb braid to a 4lb leader and it is working reasonably well. Although I know of others that run a 2lb leader.

I agree with Mickyj about the Bream seeing you. In my very limited experience, once that happens its "all she wrote" for that Bream. Im lucky if the Bream provide a safety escort for my SP / HB from that point on.
