7-year old Yahna Cheynoweth is proving to be a very talented angler and at least as keen as her father Luke. Both fished the shoreline here in Boston Bay when Yahna hooked and landed the nice flathead as shown in the accompanying image. An excellent effort Yahna.
Other images this week are of snapper from the Coffin Bay area. Ian Neal holidaying from the Riverland found snapper on the bite not far from the boat ramp, he is shown holding up two fish he caught in the channel.
The other snapper image is of Trevor Rohrlach also holidaying from the Barossa; Trevor caught his snapper on a whiting rig while fishing at Point Sir Isaac’s.
Ashley Smith of Arno Bay fishing adventures has spent countless hours chasing snapper on soft plastics of every shape, size and colour with great success. Recently Ashley applied for a record in the new ‘length only’ division with the Australian national sportfishing association. As the pictures show the plastics were a success and so was the application with this great 107cm snapper specimen.
Martin Beltrame was happy to get in one final fishing session before leaving for the United States this weekend. Fishing guide Mary Chirgwin took Martin to the Salmon Hole where they proceeded to catch a good bag of salmon after losing a few rigs on large fish in the process.
Now for what was biting & where.

ELLISTON
The wintery conditions have kept a lot of anglers at home this week but some brave locals have still been managing to produce some nice Squid and Tommies off of the local Jetty. Some decent Whiting have been landed from the beaches as well. Locks Well has been holding good numbers of Salmon but the sizes have been a bit disappointing with most fish weighing around 1 to 2kg.

SHERINGA
First Beach has been the place to go this week for some plump Tommies, with anglers going home with nice catches. Salmon Beach has been the main producer of Salmon but like other places, the sizes of the fish are on the small side.

FARM BEACH
The sticks and Long Nose have been the most productive areas fished around Farm Beach for Whiting this week. There have been a lot of Salmon trout and Tommies competing for the baits, which has made it hard for a lot of Whiting fishermen.

COFFIN BAY
Salmon trout, Tommies and a few legal whiting make up the majority of bags by the shore casters most of these fish were quite small, but those who put in the time returned with a good feed. Snapper catches slowed down over the weekend but as seen in the pictures illustrated, it is still worth a try for some quality fish.

PORT LINCOLN
There has been some good squid coming in from a variety of places in the local bays and off the jetties.
For a feed of whiting, try the southern shore of Proper Bay; the monument and Taylors Landing / Lumps.
Along the foreshore the yellow fin have not been biting well and catches have been small.
For salmon chasers, there are occasional burst of activity of larger salmon at the main wharf and around at the shipyards but more reliable catches are coming from the south coast.

TUMBY BAY
Fishermen having a go at the town jetty at night time have been going home with good bags of nice size squid and Tommies. Reports from the groups have been quiet as a result of the trying weather conditions.

PORT NEILL
Squid are still being caught everywhere around Pt. Neill with boaties staying in close with the inclement conditions. Yellow fin Whiting have also been caught in reasonable numbers off the beaches this week along with mullet. The in close Reef’s and the Phoenix ground have also been producing some nice Snapper with most being nice eating size. The local jetty as has been the case for a few weeks has had quite large winter Tommies and squid hanging around.

PORT LINCOLN ANGLERS CLUB
Despite a poor weather forecast, there was good turnout of members who fished the south coast last weekend concentrating their efforts around Wisemans Beach / Tinyah Beach area. There were squally showers throughout the day but the weather was considerably better than last year’s outing in the same area.
Division winners on the day were
Top bag for the day and top female was Julie Bascombe.
Top male was Paul Bascombe; Allan Stagg was top veteran and Reece Chamberlain did well to be top junior.
Heaviest fish was a 3.73 kilo salmon landed by Paul Bascombe.
Next outing will be Farm Beach, Mount Dutton Bay area on Sunday 21st June.

ELLISTON SALMON FISHING COMPETITION
Week one was sponsored by Rally’s Roadhouse. The mystery weight was 2.860kg and the winner of the mystery weight was Neville Hobbs of Port Augusta with a 2.570kg salmon from Locks Well. There were 79 salmon weighed in during the first week with a majority of those fish being caught at Sheringa and locks well.
