Pt Lincoln 14/05/09
Young Adam Thede went fishing onboard Tumby Bay Charters recently and scored the biggest whiting for the day at 43cm caught at the Sir Joseph Banks Group. Also fishing that day was Bill Stammers pictured with a nice rugger snapper.
Keen angler Ken Lindsay was chasing yellowfin whiting around Port Neil when he hooked something bigger on 2.5 kilo line. After a spirited tussle a hard fighting silver drummer was landed.
Now for what was biting & where.
ELLISTON
This week has seen good catches of Salmon from Locks Well up to 1.5 – 2kg. The local town jetty has been producing good numbers of Garfish with one gentleman getting 16 very plump Garfish in an hour or so. Walkers Rocks is still worth a shot for garfish but reports have been patchy. “Tommy Bob†a local town character has been catching quite a few Tommies from the jetty of an evening and into the night. Whiting and Trevally are still reliable in Anxious Bay for boaties.
SHERINGA
Very large plump salmon have been caught off the First Beach this week. Reports up to 4kg have been made from Mark at the Sheringa Road House. The big tides bought plenty of fish with it, Whiting, Trevally, squid and Mullet have all been reported this week.
ALMONTA / GUNYAH BEACHES
Some salmon catches reported from Gunyah, and a few up to 3 kilo from Almonta.
FARM BEACH
Farm Beach as always is producing Whiting off Gallipoli Beach. Fishermen have to move around, as the little ones are quite thick. Fishermen opting to burley up are catching good numbers of Trevally and Salmon trout also.
COFFIN BAY
Salmon trout have been in good numbers behind Rabbit Island this week on a high tide. Trevally and Whiting as usual are in good numbers around the leases also on a high tide. Boaties have been seen fishing through the morning and evenings around the ledge, with a few reports of Snapper being landed.
PORT LINCOLN
The national park coastline has been holding King George Whiting this week and plenty of Squid are everywhere through the bay. The town jetty still has plenty of Yellowfin Whiting, squid, tommies and Snook. Large Tuna were being caught outside the pens up to 40kg last week, but may have moved on now.
TUMBY BAY
Whiting have been scarce this week around Tumby. People are still scratching up their 12 but having to work hard for them. The Jetty has been the place to be for large Squid and Tommies. The Marina is holding Mullet. Yellowfin Whiting have been quite productive this week, while the Salmon Trout have been providing entertainment for anglers in Second Creek. If you are looking for a feed of Snook the Tape weed is the place to go with people coming back with good bags.
PORT NEILL
The Phoenix ground is still producing good Snapper. Whiting as reported last week are still quiet apart from the beaches where numbers of Yellowfin Whiting have been caught. The jetty is still a good spot to get a feed and have some fun with the Squid and Tommies.
