Port Lincoln Fishing Report 11/3/10
There are still some nice size tuna coming from around the leases and most operators are allowing reco’s to fish provided they abide by the “Code of
Conductâ€.
One of the successful anglers recently was Iain Pocock; Iain’s southern blue fin tuna weighed in at 28.5 kilo’s.
Further afield GT Charters has been putting clients onto good schools of tuna around Greenly & Rocky Island. Two accompanying images show fish typical of what has been landed.
There have been several reports of snapper and tuna carcases being dumped where boats are launched. These carcases are not eaten by crabs or birds and end up just fouling the area. Do the right thing and dispose of them appropriately.
A fishing rod and reel has been found at one of the fishing spots along the south coast. If you can correctly identify it, it can be collected from Spot On Fishing & Camping store.
Now for what was biting and where
Elliston
Big tommies, snook, garfish and squid were caught from the jetty. Whiting are about from both Anxious and Waterloo Bay beaches. Whiting are patchy for the boaties but snook of mixed sizes are very prolific.
Locks Well
Salmon were around before the windy weather set in.
Sheringa
A few salmon along with the odd whiting and salmon trout were around before the wind blew up.
Convention Beach
Some salmon to 8 lb have been caught recently however it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. One keen visiting angler put a few hours in for no results then was joined by another angler who immediately stated pulling in fish. That’s fishing for you!
Coffin Bay
Some good catches have come from along the Ledge including whiting to 40 cm, tommies, and salmon, whiting were also caught by boaties fishing along the channel and in the bay. Try around the Brothers and on the Tape Weed for garfish and snook.
Farm Beach
Weather permitting some nice whiting are coming in from north of the ramp up around Gallipoli Beach. Offshore from Mt Greenly Coles Point, boats have landed some nice morwong and a few nannygai.
Port Lincoln
Salmon are starting to frequent the wharf complex more regularly. Also from the main wharf there are mixed size tommies, the occasional trevally and a few snook. Kingfish are also being seen infrequently.
More kingfish are being sighted around the town jetty and in bigger numbers in the bottom of Proper Bay.
Yellow fin whiting are slowly building up in numbers with a few fish being caught; one group of anglers has been doing better on yellow fin in Peak Bay and south of Louth Bay.
There are whiting being caught around the Monument and Grantham Island but trumpeters are being a real curse.
Further afield whiting are being caught at Taylors, Grindal and Thistle.
Along the south coast there are good numbers of salmon but they vary greatly in size.
Tumby Bay
Some anglers bagged out on whiting at the Group while others had to work very hard for a feed but this rough weather should be good to stir things up. Garfish and squid were caught in the Bay and further south. The jetty had squid and mostly undersize kingfish.
Port Neill
No news offshore due to the windy conditions but jetty anglers scored tommies, squid, garfish and small kingfish. Most of the beaches held good size yellowfin whiting.
Arno Bay
Snapper fishing has improved recently possibly due to the weather stirring thing up.
