Port Lincoln 18/12/08

ELLISTON
Waterloo Bay and the jetty is producing trevally, tommies and some good size squid. A few whiting have been also been caught

LOCKS WELL
Fishing is not brilliant by locals' standards but visitors will be happy with most days producing plenty of smaller salmon trout and a few larger specimens.

MOUNT CAMEL
This beach is getting the best results with plenty of salmon trout and some good salmon especially in the afternoon.

SHERINGA
No reports available.

CONVENTION BEACH
Convention beach has been probably the most consistent area for good salmon catches.

ALMONTA / GUNYAH BEACHES
This area has not been reliable with salmon catches at all. For those people chasing cockles, remember the bag limit has been halved to 300 per person.

FARM BEACH
Whiting fishing has been quite good in the deeper water and north of the ramp. Over at the Sandhill's lots of smaller whiting mixed up with salmon trout, tommies and garfish.

COFFIN BAY
A few anglers have caught plenty of snapper with fish being taken from both boats and shore. Unfortunately many boats fishing in previous hot spots have missed out; the fish landed are in the 12 to 18 lb range.
There are a few sightings of large kingfish but they have been spooked by all the traffic chasing them.
Salmon trout are in most bays and around the islands and there are a few snook on the Tape Weed. Legal size whiting are hard to find in any numbers.

PORT LINCOLN
The North Shore has for both shore casters and boaties some nice whiting and squid. Also from the North Shore there have been some rugger snapper taken. The town jetty and the North Shield's jetty have a mixed bag of tommies, squid, mackerel and hook-shy snook.
Whiting are still coming in from Spalding and Proper bay and a few on the inside of Boston Island, small tommies are also around and a few of the dreaded trumpeters are starting to appear. Garfish are still scarce but a few have come from around Spalding Cove.
Mixed bags of fish are coming from around Grantham Island and Murray's Point. Whiting range from well undersized to about 34 cms and with a bit of berley some large garfish have been attracted to the back of the boats.

TUMBY BAY
Kingfish are again showing up in the marina chasing the mullet.
Out at the Group mixed bags of whiting, rugger snapper, tommies and snook.

PORT NEILL
A few flathead have been caught from the local beaches and a few snapper have come from the rocks south of the town. Boats are getting good snapper from a lot of the drops with the Phoenix being very popular. Besides snapper boats are getting good numbers of whiting and some king size snook.
The jetty and breakwater has the usual tommies, squid and snook and a few nice size gar are showing up.

PORT LINCOLN ANGLERS CLUB
Last Sunday a good roll up of members entered in a light line competition fishing anywhere from the shore between North Shields jetty and the entrance to Lincoln National Park. 1 and 2 kilo line classes were the most popular and the range of species landed included whiting, mackerel, tommies, salmon trout, trevally and an assortment of rock species.
Winner on the day was Heather Hampel who used 1-kilo line to accumulate 67.80 points. Runner up was Syd Calverley on 40.75 points.
New member John Peters won the mystery weight prize
