Hi guys,

I've just received a formal letter from Adelaide County Council,
by way of Trevor Watts, the SARFAC Executive Officer

Elsewhere on this forum there has been much doom and gloom and not a
few irate comments from anglers all over the state on this issue.

To start at the beginning,I'll go back to the recent SARFAC/PIRSA meeting organised by the Government to build bridges with Anglers and associated groups to make better communication and also a strong recreational fishing sector

At this meeting the question was raised about the expiation notices for anglers and there was a total disbelief by those attending!

The representative for the disabled anglers told us they regularly fished there with 200 disabled anglers and once had 450

Trevor said that SARFAC had long had a cordial arrangement with ACC and the Mayor in particular

Long story short, Trevor sent a letter to ACC to seek an answer and they replied in the positive to this An excerpt follows:

"I can confirm that fishing in and around "Torrens Lake" is NOT a prohibited activity (underlined in red ink!my comment)
However, individuals or clubs wanting to do so must have Council approval"

The above is embraced by "Adelaide City Council by-law #3, Part 2"

Another part of the legislation says that Anglers must abide by the Code of Conduct for SA Recreational Anglers especially relating to non-native species and native species!

The letter is signed by Debra Just, Adelaide Chief Executive Officer

The contact person for any queries on this matter is

a Mr Andrew Smith,Asset Manager(Water) on 8203 7235

My understanding is that this by-law only applys to "Torrens Lake" and that other sections of the Torrens ie Bonython Park etc are excluded from the permit system and therefore legal to fish for Carp!

Good work in my opinion by the much maligned and very dedicated guys at SARFAC

Thanks for all the tips guys, plenty of spots there for me and Matty

to get our lures in amongst

Not sure about Clayton tho', must have been bone dry during

the drought, still, with all this fresh coming down and the redfin

breeding event imminent

Hi guys,

Me and Matt89 have just invested a bit of our "hard earned" into

a 10ft Marlin Craft tinny, with two batteries and a "Mariner" leccy

motor and are real keen to chase Murray redfin and Callop this summer

We are not asking for your specific hot spots, only a rough guide to a

few general areas where we might be able to score a bit of sport!

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, tonyb.

I would have to agree with jagger- when my old man had his first boat (100% new to boating) we went over to Pt Hughes and had a ball, didnt have to go very far out, caught plenty and if the weather is too rough for your boat then the jetty is a great 2nd option.

sweet as fish that one TonyB - cheers for the link.

some fantastic release pics too.

Love it. I think plastics could be the go with the slow retrieve.

Their hard to fool interesting that it took 4 trips to get one.

Just shows you've got to put the hours in to reap the rewards.

Matt89 caught a bigger Trout than mine on a tiny "Black and Peacock"

spider wet fly and won the "Most Meritorious Catch" Trophy this year

with it from this dam!!

Just wish I wasn't so lazy to go look for the link again

Just received a heads up on the Warren Permits from the SARFAC Exec.

Apparently permits can be purchased by paypal from SARFAC's Home page,

or by mailing, or by turning up in person!

Get in soon, use it or lose it

Hi mate- I think any grubs are worth a go. As for earth worms, i think they are better than tigerworms because tiger worms are a manure worm and take on the taste which apparently fish dont like- you will still get bites on the tigers for a little while atleast. Other options for freshwater baits are Scrubworms (if you can get them) are great and as the weather gets warmer and dryer dont look past the humble Grasshopper or Locust. hope this helps you out a bit.

HEY TONY it sounds like you got a nice trout of 1.38kilos thats a beauty too, did you get any pics that you could post up on this thread?

I would love to compare the 2 fish? I might go and have a look back at Softies fish too, and check out it's condition?

They are truly stunning fish from that dam with a phenomenal growth

rate due to the prolific Fly Life in this water

I caught a 1.38kg fish here last year and I swear it jumped clear of

the water a half dozen times

Have you got the weight registered for the Trophy yet?? Gotta be a leader so far for sure!!

Well done on catching such a great fighting fish in such a difficult

fishery (due to the extreme water clarity)

I was fortunate enough to be fishing next to the next SAFWAA Ladies

Champion today, especially if she continues as well as she started off.

A nice 970 gram redfin on the tiger worm as well as another half dozen

meant she once again embarrassed the "boys"!!

Afterwards Cindy headed off to a Club Dam and took out a nice Cod

All we have to do now is to see if we can get Rick somewhere near his better half's standards

I hung in there while they all left to the Club dam nearby and managed a total of 45 redfin for the day all on bait and all removed by the landholders wishes (not wast6ed though as my bride just bought a couple of flowering Cherry trees and should get a good kick in to the growing season with a couple of dozen fertilising agents planted with around the tree roots!
