bjorn2fish
  • With the Autumn weather really moving in, things will be quite pleasant during the weekend with light winds in the morning and a small sea breeze between 10-15knots in most places.

METRO

Crabs are still moving well right down as far as West Beach. Whiting are starting to show in areas like south of the Black Pole, Silt Grounds, The Cabbage Patch, Norma Wreck on the high tide, Grange Tyre Reef and West Beach. They aren’t in big numbers as yet but enough to get a good feed. Garfish are still biting and the new coloured gents we have in bronze and red should get them biting. Squid are improving with squid showing up south of the North Haven Breakwater, out from Bower Road in 8 metres of water, West Beach and south of Brighton. Snook are still worth a try over the weed beds but they are not in big numbers. Some nice snapper have been coming from the shipping channel with some nice ruggers and the odd big fish coming in. Port River has salmon trout (But lots of small ones) some bream near the pontoons opposite the power station entering the North Arm but Mulloway have been a bit slow, hopefully with better tides they should improve. West Lakes has mullet and some small schoolies at the southern end while there are some nice bream at the northern end. Mullet have moved in off the beaches with some nice ones being caught. Plenty of burley is the trick to get them going. Port River creeks has some big schools of mullet also.

Snapper and Nannies are coming from areas south of Pondi, near Wedge and south west of Althorpes along the ledge drop offs. There is also some nice size Morwong as well. This time of year should see some snook inside the bay at Marion bay in the late afternoons. Whiting are being caught inside Pondi to the right, on the northern grounds at Marion Bay and out from Rhinos. Big squid should be off the Marion Bay jetty but you will have to get there very early in the morning.

FRESHWATER

Around Mannum and Big Bend there are some nice callop and plenty of carp. Fish around the snags where possible.

Blanchetown/Castles Landing
Callop are coming from the areas near the cliffs and some are in the snaggy areas across from Castles landing. Some catfish have been caught in the same area which have to be put back into the water. A couple of smaller cod have been caught while trawling for the callop mainly around the cliffs. Cobdogla has callop and a few yabbies are coming from the backwaters and channels. Plenty of big carp are in Lake Bonney which should make it fun for the kids. Try the beach around near Napper Bridge where they are plentiful. Chambers Crekk still has some nice yabbies. Renmark is generally the same but the callop are not big but there is some nice cod around. Always remember to handle the fish carefully and not take them out from the water. If in doubt look it up on how to catch and release on the PIRSA site.

Well that’s enough I think as my fingers are getting sore.
