Port Lincoln fishing report 05/06/2015

bjorn2fish
  • Well, winter is officially here, and although the temperatures are cold, the fishing seems to be hotting up! Most anglers are getting amongst their target species with some good catches of Whiting, Salmon, Nannygai and big Garfish being reported back to us at the shop. Out wide, the Tuna are still around and Sampson Fish seem to be appearing everywhere, so grab your thermals, beanies and gloves and head out to get a good feed of fresh fish.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston

Salmon to 3.5kg were going good at Locks Well. The jetty had tommies, gar and the odd snook after dark. Land based anglers found whiting off the rocks.

Sheringa

Salmon are around the beaches of varying sizes. Whiting, tommies and mullet came from First Beach.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

A few salmon around 2kg were found on bait and lures.

Farm Beach

King George Whiting are being caught by boaties fishing all areas surrounding Farm Beach. Reports indicate that fish are not miles out to sea, with some land based anglers returning good results. The only thing common being reported is size of fish. Most fish being caught had to be measured

Coffin Bay

Tuna have slowed down, however are still continuing to be sighted and caught by anglers fishing offshore. Reports indicate the fish tend to be hanging around Greenly and Rocky Islands. Snapper and Nannygai are keeping boaties fed. Try light rods and small jigs for a bit of fun and to keep you warm.

Port Lincoln

Squid are being caught in good numbers around dawn and dusk. There tends to be no particular area in which these are being caught, with most anglers having success. Whiting averaging 32 to 36cm were reported along the North Shore, Proper and Porter Bay, Taylors Landing and Thistle Island with occasional bigger fish around 40cm. A few 5 to 7kg tuna have been landed south of the Passage. A few Samson fish have been reported from reefs around the Passage and further out. We have had a few reports of some thumper Garfish being caught locally. Gents are the best bait along with some surface burley.

Tumby Bay

Whiting were hit and miss at the Group but if you found them you could get your limit. Squid and Snook were around as well.

The jetty and shallows had mullet and squid.

Port Neill

Squid and Snook have been landed by boaties and off the jetty where there’s tommies as well. Salmon to 3 pounds came from the beach at Carrow Wells. Good size whiting are going well on northern grounds but snapper have been quiet.

Arno Bay

Snapper have improved out wide with ruggers and bigger fish found. Whiting and squid are about in closer with a few snapper as well.
