Port Lincoln fishing report 08/10/2015

bjorn2fish
  • At least the weather was great for part of the long weekend. Plenty of people got out fishing on the nice days, and by all reports, some great fish were caught. Lets hope that we get some more days like Sunday. Pictured we have Carolyn Hanrahan with a PB Australian Salmon. 81cm and 5.2 Kg. Excellent effort. Carolyn and partner Brad who are from Port Pirie came down for the weekend and fished Gunyah beach. They landed and released 40 fish between them. Excellent effort guys! A bit further from home is Neville Durdin with a 94cm Barramundi caught in an NT creek recently.

Now for what was biting and where

Sheringa
Whiting and tommies came from First Beach and salmon were in the surf.

Elliston
Big tommies came from the jetty at night, while during the day squid, trevally and a few whiting were caught.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach
Australian Salmon are firing from the beach, with best results returned to anglers using metal lures. These fish are averaging 3.5Kg at the moment and reaching up to 5kg, so make sure you have some quality gear, especially trebles on those lures.

Farm Beach
A few squid came from the broken weed patches out off Farm Beach. Whiting from just size to 37cm were caught on northern drops and also between Point Longnose and Sir Isaacs.

Coffin Bay
Silver Trevally from inside the bay, and the odd sized king George whiting was caught around the oyster leases.

Nannygai and the odd Blue Morwong are being caught offshore by boaties, snapper news was quiet.

Port Lincoln
Garfish, Squid, King George Whiting, and big Tommies are being caught from Boston and Proper bays. Best baits are cockles and prawns. Australian Salmon from Sleaford to Wanna, before the fire situation, average 4 kilograms, there were also some Tommies around Sleaford up to 30cm. Squid and a few whiting were caught around Louth but most of the whiting were undersize.

Tumby Bay
The Group has been hard work to find whiting but the average size was over 40cm. Squid kept visiting anglers entertained off the jetty while small salmon were in Second Creek.

Port Neill
Good whiting, squid and a few snook were reported by boaties. Breakwater and jetty fishers found tommies, squid and snook.

Arno Bay
Good size whiting bit well with one measuring 53cm, as well as squid and the odd snapper out wide. The jetty had good size tommies.
