  • This week's Port Lincoln fishing report thanks to Spot On Fishing and Outdoors - Port Lincoln

The first photo is of some Port Lincoln Anglers Club members who fished in the PIRTEK challenge a couple of weeks ago. The Port Lincoln guys did well getting a couple of division wins, a second and a third. Back left to right is Wayne Paterson, Heath Ellis, Tim Doyle, in the front is Riley Peters. The second photo is Slugga Peak, who landed this Sampson fish South of Williams Island. It took 20 mins to land and took 2 to lift it in the boat. Good effort.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

The Elliston jetty has had reports of Tommies, Garfish, and good size Squid.

Anxious Bay anglers are having good results targeting King George Whiting, from both land and boat.

Salmon are being caught along most of the beaches, including Locks Well, and Sheringa with size averaging between 2 – 3 kilograms. Try the Sheringa beaches for good sized Tommies, Mullet, and King George Whiting.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Salmon are being caught around Almonta beach, and Golden Island with most fish being around 2 – 3 kilograms. Best results were coming from anglers using pilchards for bait as a lot of fish caught were not in schools, however were in good gutters close enough to cast to from the shoreline.

Farm Beach

Reports of King George Whiting coming in. Most bigger fish seemed to have come from deeper grounds, with most shallow drops containing smaller fish.

Coffin Bay

A few King George Whiting are being caught throughout the bay by boat and land based anglers. Snapper and Gummy sharks are being caught by boaties willing to put some time in and use burley. Garfish, and Salmon Trout are also popular catches throughout the bay. The odd Yellowtail Kingfish are still being sighted by anglers.

Snapper have had a reasonable run with a few good fish being caught in amongst the ruggers.

Tuna are being caught averaging 10-15 kilograms from anglers fishing out from Pt Whidbey, Sir Isaacs, Reef Head, Greenly and Rocky Islands. Sir Isaacs has also had reports of some Snapper of various sizes, and some big Nannygai.

Port Lincoln

King George Whiting are being caught in shallower waters throughout Boston and proper Bay, with some bigger fish coming from deeper water. Yellowfin Whiting along the foreshore and town jetty are in small schools, with persistent anglers finding a good feed. Salmon Trout and a few mackerel are being caught from the main wharf, especially if burley is being used. The Blue Swimmer Crabs kept the Easter holiday makers fed despite some of the weather. King George Whiting have been reported out at Thistle Island in good numbers and size.

Tumby Bay

The jetty has some good sized Squid. Try the Group for some plump Garfish, and the occasional Snook on lures. King George Whiting are being reported to be some what ‘patchy’ or in small schools.

Port Neill

The jetty and breakwater is providing good catches of Squid and Tommies. Yellowfin Whiting, and mullet are also showing up and being caught along the beaches. Boaties are having good success with King George Whiting, Garfish, and Squid.

Arno Bay

A few Snapper are being caught out wide up to 70cm in length.

King George Whiting are a little scarce in schools, however some good fish are still being caught in deeper water. Boaties are also getting some good Squid.

Cowell

A few Yellowfin and King George Whiting in Franklin harbour and snapper outside. Blue crabs are a bit small, but most are of legal size.

Port Lincoln Anglers Club

PLAC members fished the PIRTEK National Fishing Challenge on March 22nd.

This competition raises funds and awareness into prostate cancer.

Members fished Convention Beach & Halls Bay as the target fish was either Tommy Ruff or KG Whiting.

PLAC members did extremely well with Tim Doyle getting 1st place in senior division for Tommy Ruff. Coming in 2nd & 3rd was Heath Ellis & Wayne Paterson respectively in the Junior division was Riley Peters coming in 1st place.
