  • The overall winner for the Elliston Salmon comp was announced this week. Congratulations to Ken Roesler who caught a 5.360 kg Salmon at Talia. August winners were Tony Shuttleworth with a 5.020 kg Salmon and runner up was Adam Walker with a 4.905 kg specimen. Both of these fish were caught at Mt Camel.
Now for what was biting and where

Elliston
Tommies bit best at night from the jetty, with gar and big squid during daylight hours.

Salmon at Mount Camel weighed up to 4kg. Locks Well salmon were of similar size.

Sheringa
Whiting, tommies and salmon trout off first Beach. Some bigger salmon further down off the surf beaches.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach
Still no reports of Salmon from this stretch of beach. From all reports, only a few salmon trout have been caught by bait fishos over the last few weeks.

Farm Beach
Some good reports of King George Whiting are coming from the area for boaties, especially north of Farm Beach. Some undersize some just over. For a better chance of finding some good fish, head north to Frenchmans.

Coffin Bay
King George Whiting throughout the bay. Water temp is still low, but if the promised warm weather does come, the weekend might be worth a try. The Ledge has been very quiet, with only a few Salmon trout being reported.

Port Lincoln
Louth whiting have been slow. There was a few big squid around Louth Island. Boaties fishing the bays have struggled to find many King George Whiting. Squid, Tommies, and Garfish were found throughout local bays and jetties.

The surf beaches in the national park have seen many anglers getting amongst some big salmon. A few over 10 pounds have been caught on metal lures and pilchard baits.

Offshore continues to be good for Nannygai, blue morwong and a few snapper.

A few nice flathead have been caught on soft plastics. 70 – 100 mm squidgies are the most popular with jig heads to match the depth of water that you are fishing.

Tumby Bay
Group mixed King George Whiting from undersize to 40+cm

Port Neill
Small tommies and squid were caught off the jetty. The best whiting catches came from northern grounds.

Arno Bay
Squid and tommies came from the jetty. Out wide there was a few snapper.

Good size winter whiting are still to be found down south.

Cowell
Blue crabs were found outside Franklin Harbour in the deeper water. A few rugger snapper were found towards Lucky Bay.

Silver whiting were found inside Franklin Harbour.

Port Lincoln Anglers Club
Saturday the 12th of September is a AAA offshore comp held at Port Victoria on York Peninsula.
