Lots of anglers are gearing up for the Snapper ban which ends at 12noon on the 15th. Many of us are looking forward to heading out and landing a few big fish. I am hoping to get my first SA Snapper for Christmas.
In the pictures, we have Ash Smith (not on a boat for a change) with a very nice Mulloway and Kate Peglidis with a nice Tuna.
Now for what was biting and where.
Elliston / Sheringa
Try the Elliston jetty for Tommies, and some good sized squid. Some decent Sweep are also being caught from rocks around the area. Closer down to Sheringa. Tommies, Whiting, and Mullet are going well from first beach, with a few Flathead also being landed.
Almonta / Gunyah Beach
Smaller salmon have come from Almonta. The odd bigger salmon and tommies up to 35cm were caught at Gunyah.
Farm Beach
Boaties launching from farm beach are having success on King George Whiting with slightly bigger fish on northern grounds. As well as Whiting there are Salmon Trout, Gar, Trevally and Tommies.
Coffin Bay
Salmon trout and Silver Trevally can be caught in good numbers throughout the bay from areas such as the jetty, Ledge and boat ramp. Some Yellowtail Kingfish of good size are also still being spotted throughout the bay. Greenly island, Rocky island and Krause Rock are producing Bluefin Tuna averaging 10 kg but some to 20kg came from around Rocky along with Kingies.
Port Lincoln
Try the main wharf for the odd King George Whiting, and good numbers of Squid early in the morning or on the high tide. Fisheries Beach has been productive with some Silver Trevally, and Salmon Trout. Local jetties have been good for Squid, Tommies, and Garfish in amongst the trumpeter’s during the high afternoon tide. Murrays point has plenty of Tommies. Salmon schools are still continuing to provide anglers some great fun throughout Boston bay and surrounding bays, feeding on Anchovies. The Salmon are not only restricted to boaties, with plenty of land based anglers being successful casting lures throughout the working schools.
Birds working the area are a giveaway that the salmon are in the area. Blue Swimmer Crabs are also picking up in numbers, size and weight.
Tumby Bay
Whiting and squid are good out at the Group.
Port Neill
Tommies, and Garfish are being caught consistently on the jetty and along the breakwater. Snook and Squid are also being caught, however catch rates tend to be higher with the high tide or during dusk or dawn sessions. A few Yellowfin Whiting are showing up from the beaches closer to town, and for anglers chasing Salmon the southern beaches have fish around the 2 kilogram mark.
Cowell
Salmon Trout, and Tommies are being caught from the jetty at all times of the day, biting on a variety of baits and lures. King George Whiting can also be caught from the jetty. Reports of Blue Swimmer Crabs indicate that they are starting to fill out, however are not in massive numbers.
