  • Local bays are seeing good numbers of Blue Swimmer Crabs, with best results being returned during night sessions. Try Salmon, Tommies and Freeze Dried Squid are proving effective baits for the Crabs.

Southern Bluefin Tuna are caught being out wide. Pick your days carefully with this windy weather though.

Local jettys are showing up a few nice sized Garfish in shallow waters and some excellent size Squid, Silver Trevally are proving great tasty sport for many anglers fishing local bays whether targeting them or not.

Anglers are finding that if they are using burley for a certain species, they will be accompanied by Trevally. These fish are excellent fun on light gear.

This weeks pictures are of Leona Urban who caught her first ever Bluefin Tuna recently and with a Thistle Island King George Whiting measuring 57cm is Mitch Peak. 2 very nice catches indeed.

We have had a few reports of good sized Snapper coming in since the ban was lifted on Monday. Please remember to check for other closures before you head out, as there are still some areas closed for Snapper until Jan 30th.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa

No reports received, but the Salmon and Whiting should still be a good option from the beaches. Around rocky points could be worth a look for other species as well.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach

Gunya beach has had a few mixed reports over the past week. Some anglers reported seeing many schools from the point of entry onto the beach. Other anglers had reported not seeing any schools whatsoever but finding good solid fish averaging 2-4 kilograms biting on baits and Spanyid Raider lures in the Blue colours.

Farm Beach

Boaties are reporting good catches of King George Whiting on cockles.

Coffin Bay

Southern Bluefin are still averaging less than 10 kilograms, however good numbers are being reported. Most reports are coming from out wide at the Hummocks, Perforated, greenly and Rocky Islands with small Kings and Samsons around Rocky as well.

Port Lincoln

Tumby Bay

A few Squid and plenty of Tommies are being caught from inside the bay and on the jetty. The marina still has Silver Trevally and the Tommies are in there as well.

Port Neill

No reports, but there should be plenty of Tommies and Salmon Trout around.

Arno Bay

Reports of Snapper being caught are starting to come through the shop.

Cowell

Blue swimmer crabs are being reported in good numbers from around the township
