Port Lincoln fishing report 20/08/2015

bjorn2fish
  • Plenty of fishos took advantage of the great weather over the weekend and got out fishing. Either there weren’t many fish caught, or everyone is too shy to tell us what they caught and send us pictures.

Pictured with a very nice Salmon is Tristan Binder who caught a few fish down in the Lincoln National Park on the weekend using lures. Even though there weren’t any big schools to be seen, there were still a few nice fish in the surf.

Now for what was biting and where

Elliston / Sheringa
Some good fish up to 4kg’s have been caught by those casting pilchards into gutters.

Almonta / Gunyah Beach
Still only a few Salmon being caught along this stretch of the coast.

Farm Beach
King George Whiting are being caught from boaties fishing in the area, with reports fish are being caught in five plus metres of water. Burley is almost essential to keep schools of fish on the bite and around your boat. Boat launching may be difficult as there is a large amount of seaweed on the beach.

Coffin Bay
Greenly Island is having reports of Tuna being sighted ‘everywhere’, but no reports of any being caught as yet.

Port Lincoln
Yellowfin Whiting are having very mixed reports with some anglers doing better than others. Reports indicate that there are schools of fish along the foreshore and further along the North Shore, however not everyone targeting them was able to land a fish. Anglers using fresh bait such as clickers or worms (either tube, blood, or seaweed) were the ones who returned the best results. Some fish were reported being up to 40 cm.

Boaties fishing the North Shore are returning with good catches of King George Whiting, and Squid. Some Whiting were larger than 40 cm.

Boaties also reported King George Whiting and Squid around Taylors Island, and Thistle Island, which were caught at times of the incoming tide.

Australian Salmon are being caught along the Sleaford to Wanna coastline, with more consistent fish closer to Wanna. Best results were returned to anglers using metal lures and using pilchards for burley to attract fish closer to the shoreline. Most Salmon caught were not in schools, however were in gutters and averaging around 2-3 kilograms.

The Passage has had a few mixed reports. Some anglers did very well in catching Nannygai, and Blue Morwong on baits and jigs during morning sessions.

Tumby Bay
The Group is having anglers return with good catch rates of plump King George Whiting, and Squid.

Port Neill
No reports

Arno Bay
No reports

Cowell
No reports
