Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 10/02/2016

bjorn2fish
  • The weekend is looking good with light to moderate winds all weekend with great tides.

METRO
Plenty of crabs being caught between Largs Bay and Semaphore and extends down as far as Brighton. Whiting are on the improve with good catches from a college down at Brighton and there has been some good catches out from the Black Pole. Garfish are still prolific but again reluctant to bite, but there is at least a feed to be had. Squid showed up down the southern grounds south of Glenelg along with some nice snook.

Snook are also being caught near the grounds between the silt grounds and the shipping channel. Port river has bream, a sprinkle of salmon trout in the North Arm and some yellowfin Whiting around St Kilda.

YORKE PENINSULA
The Yorkes is doing very well indeed with plenty of crabs in both gulfs. Ardrossan, Port Vincent, Stansbury and Port Broughton, Port Germain, Port Augusta, Wallaroo, Port Hughes and Port Victoria are all doing well.

Garfish are still pretty thick around Ardrossan (South), Port Vincent, Stansbury and Edithburgh. The other side has some nice Gar at Port Broughton, Wallaroo, Moonta Bay, Port Vic and as far south as Point Turton.

There are some nice Soapies off Berry Bay and Gleeson's with bigger fish at the dust hole and as far south as the Gap. Tuna action is still pretty active down south of Marion Bay and also heading towards Wedge.

There are some big fish in amongst the smaller fish so make sure you have the gear to take on either, otherwise it could be a very expensive trip. Whiting and Nannies are also doing well around Marion Bay and south of Althorpes and west towards Wedge. Don't normally do KI but had a friend that went there and did well off Kingscote jetty on the whiting and went out on a charter out from Emu Bay where they got lots of snapper, Nannies and some huge whiting not that far out. If you are ever over there and don't have a boat I have found going to fish over at De Estrees Bay just right of where you come in is fantastic. My kids got lots of KG Whiting and big flathead.

SOUTH
Seems it was hard work at the Coast to Coast but that is how it is. But on a brighter note Salt Creek is still producing good fish for those shore anglers. Amongst the mulloway there has been a sprinkle of salmon and also some nice Gummies. Again when fishing in the surf patience is the key (Check baits often, Watch where the line is and do as much fishing time on the beach as possible. The West Coast is the same, do the time and get reward. Cape Jervis had a flurry of tommies late in the night with a few smaller ones at Rapid Bay. Second Valley has been OK with the squid with the odd big tommy and some gar on the bigger tides.

FRESHWATER
Small Callop have been caught along the Murray but there is the odd big one withing the snags. Some huge Carp are coming out from Lake Bonney and also from areas north of Mannum.Shrimps are slowly on the improve with some nice ones coming from the punt at Mannum.
