Dorsal Fin - SA Fishing Report 21/10/2015

bjorn2fish
  • With this front that has been moving through and wind predicted to be light Friday, Saturday and Sunday the stir up should get the fish to bite well.

METRO
Whiting catches have been quite good in areas around Brighton, West Beach and surprisingly St Kilda. People have been getting a nice feed around the Black Pole with catches ranging from a dozen to 24 fish before they go off. Garfish have been small but there is some good fish north of the Bastard Pole and some nice ones have also showed up at the Norma Wreck. Brighton has a mix of gar and tommies. Snook are in full breading mode and can be caught on the weed beds in around 2.5-3.5 metres of water. Some nice tommies are coming from Grange jetty but there is a lot of smaller ones to contend with. This year would have to be one of the best squidding seasons with squid holding still in most areas and jetties. Nice bream are coming from West Lakes along with some schoolies at the southern end. Occasionally there are some mulloway back from the outlet off the beaches. Port river has some nice salmon trout mainly from the north arm right up to St Kilda. Some fish have gone 1 kilo. The northern beaches are doing well for yellowfin and crabs when raking. Stick to the channels as the weed can be very boggy. Should be good fun for the kids.

YORKE PENINSULA
Crabs are showing up at Port Broughton, Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Price, Ardossan and Stansbury. Some nice salmon and flathead are at the mouth of the Price creek with some Yakkers getting towed by the salmon. Snapper have been slow but a few are starting to show around Edithburgh and Corney Point. Some shore base anglers have been getting some ruggers off the reef at Gleeson's Landing. Whiting have been good in the Spencer gulf with fish from Turton right up to Port Broughton. Fish the cork weed beds this time of year and move when they go off the bite but only move several hundred metres as the schools move around. Garfish are at the Port Hughes light in good numbers, also try Port Broughton, Wallaroo near Bird and also Port Victoria. Squid again are in very good numbers on the jetties and boat. Best spots have been Rickaby, Port Vic, Port Hughes, Edithburgh and Wool Bay. Salmon schools have been cruising around Troubridge but they don't seem to be holding, Browns has been slow but the has been some nice schools at Royston and Dolphin beach, along with plenty of tommies. Pondi has some nice flathead and whiting off the beach using soft plastics. Marion Bay has squid off the jetty and out from the jetty is some nice size whiting.

SOUTH
Well you all know about the barrel tuna so the only thing I can tell you is that better catches have come from Cape Jaffa. Salt Creek has been slow of late but that doesn't mean there is no fish. This place is where you have to put in the time but it will pay off. Waitpinga beach is still producing salmon and salmon trout in good numbers.

FRESHWATER
Even though there isn't a lot of flow there has been some yabbies around near the deeper waters near the opening of the backwaters. Shrimp are becoming more plentiful and the callop seem to be really playing the game. Castles Landing, Big Bend, Manuum, Blacnchetown, Cadell and Cobdogla being the better places.

Been a slow week for us so please support us when you can. We do have more info at the shop.
