  • The weekend weather will be OK within gulf waters but the south easterly winds will be up to 18 knots on the southern coast. Those that can get weekdays off Monday to Wednesday is looking calm all round.

METRO
Crabs are still going strong with Brighton, Semaphore, Largs and St Kilda/Black Pole areas being the best. The summer whiting are still hanging in there with some good catches coming from the West Beach area late afternoons and south of Brighton near the turn of tides. There are still some whiting coming from the cabbage patch and near the Black Pole. Squid have been spasmodic but tend to be better on fast tides just north of Marino, West Beach out from the ramp, north of Grange, east of the Black Pole and the weed beds just before Port Gawler. Snook are being caught near dusk along the shallower weed beds between Grange and Semaphore. A few snapper have been taken from the shipping channel 3 poles before the Farewell Beacon and out wide about 30kms west of North Haven. Port river has some nice bream from the Port Adelaide sailing club up to the Birkenhead bridge, they are also getting bream near the wrecks in the North Arm. There are some nice mullet in the creeks between the North Arm and St Kilda usually just inside the creek. Heavy burleying is the trick and use gents for bait on a float to avoid catching the weed. West lakes has some big bream near the southern end of the lake and also between the Bartley Tavern and the old boat ramp north. Mulloway have been slow but there has been a few just south of the island. Yellowfin whiting are being caught on the northern beaches like Webb wading out, Thompson’s and Port Wakefield.

YORKE PENINSULA
Tuna are still around Susan Shoals but the schools are not as big as they were due to the Tuna boats netting recently. This has scattered the schools into smaller pods of fish. Nice Nannies are still being caught in around the same area but some days they won’t bite and some days they go crazy. Some kingfish are hanging around the shallower area of the shoals also. Crabs are still doing very well on the Yorkes and should do for a few more weeks yet. Port Vincent is the pick of the towns with plenty for even the rakers. Other areas are Port Clinton, Ardrossan, Stansbury, Black Point, Port Broughton, Wallaroo and Port Hughes. Some nice summer whiting are still around at Port Hughes, Port Victoria, Hardwick Bay, West of Turton, Corny Point, Edithburgh, Marion Bay and Stansbury where there has been some excellent numbers near the spit on the inside and north of the cemetery. Some nice snapper have been coming from Ardrossan and north of Black Point and there are some nice ruggers coming from Tapley’s Shoal. Snook are coming from Port Broughton, Wallaroo, Port Hughes near Coopers, Port Victoria near Deadman’s, Squid are coming from out front of Pine Point, near the inner spit of Black Point, inside the spit at Stansbury, Turton and near North beach at Wallaroo. Wool Bay jetty, Edithburgh jetty and Wallaroo jetty has squid also. Jetties worth a try for crabs are Stansbury, Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Moonta and Port Broughton. Garfish are still in big numbers out near the light at Port Hughes, Near Bird Island (Inside) south of Wallaroo (Including some big mullet), Price, south of Ardrossan, Stansbury and Port Vincent.

SOUTH
Tuna are still being caught down south west of Victor but there was a school near the breakwater at Cape Jervis on Monday so the school shouldn’t be too far away if venturing out this weekend. Whiting are south west of Cape Jervis along with some rugger snapper. Snapper are also out from Willoughby in the deeper grounds. The Bluff jetty has some squid. Waitpinga has salmon trout early mornings but there is the odd salmon near the reef late at nights. Coorong has some nice mullet and some salmon trout along with some bream near the rocky channels. Salt Creek still has some mulloway along with salmon and sharks. Weed can be a problem at times but if you can fish the wider gutters you may be able to keep the lines out longer. Persistence is the key. Rapid Bay has squid, tommies and a few garfish. Some snapper came from the Wirrinna area and some nice whiting towards Lady Bay in the sand patches. Whiting are also being caught out from the Normanville jetty a couple of kms out in the sand patches along with some big drummer.

FRESHWATER
Yabbies are still being caught in good numbers in the river from Cobdogla down to Swan Reach. Some nice callop have been caught around Cobby, Blanchetown, Big Bend and near the marina at Mannum.
