afishyfish 4
Just changed my mind !Heading down to Outer harbor landbased, with a neighbour. We plan trying to dab off the wharves, and the o/h ramp area.I'll try and put a report up tomorrow to let you know whats happening .
afishyfish 4
We headed sown to the Outer harbor area tonight with a rice strainer attached to a long extension pole.A bit rough and ready but it did the job With the wind out of the NW a few worms drifted past us from time to time, and we managed 25 or so, at least until someone slipped on a rock and half them ended up back in the water :pinch: :S Heres what remained Picture might be a bit dodgy being taken by torchlight Anyone else get any ? bent87 0
great fresh baits there. The run is probably well under way by now, and during the peak period, which lasts about a week, you can expect the bite to shut down considerably, as most species gorge themselves on the abundant juicy offerings.
afishyfish 4
The bite was on last night, with one latching onto the skin between my fingers.Dam thing hurt like a bee sting    :side:

Highfly 0
Went out last night got shiploadsThey started about 8.30 kept going right thru to about 11.00 when we pulled the pin, had enough. They where still runnin hot at 11.00 when we where well and trully plucked. Was telling my decky they only run for two or so hours but they just kept runnin. Even when we left we where still getting bunches of 6 and 7 s to a scoop. Last year it was like rundle mall out there last night only two other boats. With the strong westerly last night I reckon truckloads would have washed up on largs and semi beaches.Looks like a good run, anyone interested might wanna head out tonight cause there on big time.gl Ranger
Skudded 0
Hints for landbased locations??
Ranger 48
Hints for landbased locations??You can generally pick up a few floating into North Haven Marina, at Outer Harbour Boat Ramp or along the rocks at Outer Harbour. Take a very fine net on a very long pole and the best light you have.
samrota 1
Just got back from Outer Harbor rocks with a big bucket full of worms. Was only there for 1.5-2hrs. Having a good head torch helps a lot. They should be out tomorrow night too i reckon.Sam
Savagelip 4
This is interesting how do go about collecting these?
samrota 1
Fine mesh net on a long pole and the best light you have. 2-4 days after a new moon. In June, July, and August. Out going tide at night. If land based you'll need a westerly wind to help blow them to the shore.Sam. Savagelip and piratepom
samrota 1
3/4 of last nights land based efforts. The other 1/4 i'll keep alive for as long as i can. Was a good night for worming, with only a small shower coming through.Pretty happy with what i got. Sam
Savagelip 4
Holyshit! :woohoo: good haul :fishing:they look similar to bungum worms...
Woody 0
Wow, nice catch mate, that'll save the hip pocket
Fordxr6t 0
Can you get them on the metro beaches or only around the Outer Harbour rocks when land based.
samrota 1
You possibly could get them along the beaches (i've never tried), but you'll have better luck at Outer Harbor boat ramp or the fishing platform at the Outer Harbor rocks, near the shipping terminals. They might be running tonight too from 8pm onwards, or you'll have to wait til the beginning of August for the next run.Sam
Murphysegg 31
Any tips on how to prepare freshly caught bloodworms for storing longterm? I had heard a quick dunking in meths toughens them up prior to freezing?
FishnSnags 0
soak them in a brine solution, works for most baits from the salt.
Ranger 48
Any tips on how to prepare freshly caught bloodworms for storing longterm? I had heard a quick dunking in meths toughens them up prior to freezing?Dry them a little on newspaper then dunk them into the metho for about 30 seconds.Remove them, dry the excess metho off on newspaper, bag and freeze. After trying a few different methods, I have found the metho to work best for me. afishyfish 4
Plenty of info on prserving Bloodworms on the forum I have found the metho to work best for me.Turps works best for me, the hangovers a shocker though
luke_southoz 0
Would a garfish net be fine enough to get them with?Probably gonna go down for a quick look tommorow night
afishyfish 4
Would a garfish net be fine enough to get them with?A gar net will work' date=' but only if you're quicker to get them into the boat. It's not ideal.Last decent catch I had was with waterboy in my boat,I managed to get some fine plastic mesh from a florists and lined my gar net with that, and it worked a trreat .The worms arent clear to see, but theyre just below the surface in that Esky. Must have been hundreds
luke_southoz 0
Sweet cheers mate. Hotfish have some really fine nets for $10 so i might pick that up and put it in the gar net.
Ranger 48
I use a very fine mesh not, almost like a butterfly net, which I purchase from Cheap as Chips for around $3 apiece, and I attach these to very long poles.
Raider 19
Hey guysI am keen to try get out for a fish tomorrow coz its my day off work, but obviously want to avoid the areas were the fish are full with bloodworms. Do you think port norlunga would be worth a shot?
Ranger 48
Noarlunga will be fine as bloodworms are found in mangrove areas.Still just a tad early for the August run, so we all have a few days fishing yet.
