spinyeel 2
Adelaide now has just released details of a drowning at the Murray Mouth.Apparently a 54 year old man ended up trapped in his vehicle and somehow ended up submerged.Another man tried in vain to swim out with a winch cable but the current was too strong. What a bizarre tragedy. Pic: Michael MilnesA DESPERATE bid by a nearby fisherman to save the life of a man who drove into the Murray Mouth yesterday was foiled by strong currentsWitnesses say the 54-year-old man had been seen fishing out of the rear of his mid-1980s Toyota Land Cruiser and had moved between various locations on the beach as he searched for the best fishing spot.Mystery surrounds how the man and his his vehicle entered the water about 8.30pm.A nearby fisherman, Shane Lindfield from Langhorne Creek, noticed what appeared to be headlights in the water. After alerting other fishermen nearby, Mr Lindfield drove his own vehicle to the water's edge - wrapped a strap around his waste and dived into the water in an attempt to hook a winch cable to the submerged vehicle. But the current was too strong and Mr Lindfield was unable to reach the vehicle. It is understood the currents shifted the submerged vehicle into deeper water, making rescue efforts extremely difficult for emergency services. The vehicle and the body of its occupant was recovered about 3:15am. Softy 2,991
I just hope there isn't a knee-jerk reaction to vehicles on the beach after this and they ban all cars.
Guest Brent61
by all accounts it sounds like he had a heart condition and possibly had a heart attack whilst driving.hence the reason he was out so far.i'm sure we all send our condolences to his family, just doing what we all love, fishingbrent
thefunkychicken 0
Geez, what a sad occurrence. Hopefully his medical condition made it a quick departure for him and he is elsewhere catching fish right now.A big pat on the back should go to the brave people who put their safety on the line in attempting to get the vehicle and it's occupant out of the water.Cheers.
