Roundie 0
Hello,If I have a 2-4kg rod, and 2.4kg berkley fire wire, what should break first under strain?
plankton 725
Most likely the braid unless you're doing something stupid with your rod. Other factors possibly involved though, are you running a leader? how is your drag set?
Roundie 0
drag wasnt too tight, and it ended getting snagged on the crab net, the rod was loaded up when it snapped

Here's a few tips to hopefully save you from disaster next timeI've seen plenty of rods snap when people tried to use them to pull hooks from a snag. Best method is to get the line tight with the rod pointed as directly at the snag as possible(so the rod isn't loaded at all) then grab hold of the spool (effectively locking up the drag) and slowly pull or walk back. 9 times out of 10 the knot attaching the leader to the lure or hook will pop, the other 10% of the time the line will break somewhere else, but you will never break a rod this way.Something else you need to look out for is "high sticking" with your rod, that is, getting it too vertical when it's loaded up, blanks just aren't designed to cope with that sort of rotational force. You shouldn't bring it past 10(or 2)o'clock. Not sure if that was part of the issue for you, but it's worth remembering. reelin
