digitalnoir 0
Howdy!I have recently moved down to Moana.. I have been fishing a fair bit of North Moana and High Tide and also the mouth at Southport but so far have had no luck with YFW... I have been fishing a running sinker rig most f the time on fairly light gear with bloodworms and cockles.. A million baby tommies/ST but no whiting as yet...Any tips would be brilliant! Kelvin 2,197
Can you see any whiting? Are you using live bloodworms?I wouldn't bother with cockles for metro fish. The fish in country areas with less fishing pressure are less fussy, but I only use livebait metro.
digitalnoir 0
Nope aint spotted any around...I have not been using live bait however - do you really think it makes that much of a difference?
Kelvin 2,197
Metro, yes makes a huge difference. I would rate bait as the most important factor in catching metro YFW. Fishing off the jetty side by side with someone using live worms and you will really struggle if you are not using the same. I have seen many whiting swim upto my bait and if it is not quite right on not fresh they will just turn away.Metro, I have caught a few whiting on frozen bloodworm. My best bag on freeze dried worms is only 15 fish. All by bagouts have been on live bungum, tube worms, bloodworms, or yabbies. On Yorkes I have done fine with frozen bloodworm. bricks 24
Got to disagree with you here kelvin. I've tried most baits fresh, live and frozen with pretty much sweet FA difference in the end result on standard bread and butter species.Game fish, yesScavengers, never noticed a difference. The only thing which seems to make a difference is old bait, and the size of the bait.Digital,To be honest I've not caught YFW at moana or southport.I have caught them between Brighton and Kingston park, and also north of Henley and at aldinga. The biggest tip I'd give is to walk the beach and find the fish you want. Sometimes you'll need to walk a fair ways to find where they're hiding.
bricks 24
Obviously match the bait to your fish,Cockles or worms are fine, I usually keep a pack of those dehydrated worms in the back of the bus for the spontaneous sessions after work.
archerfish 685
Noticed these in a tackle shop yesterday. Anybody used them yet and had any results?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtqJ9KJvzsE"Blueberries", though??!!Cheersaf
Milmo 116
I find that the YFW in metro area mixied with people swimming. Most of the time i caught my fish (YFW) very close to where people swim. They probably like it when the people stirring up the sand and uncover their food.

brenton 637
I'd agree with Kelvin 100% he definately has the runs on the board with the metro Y/F,I've even fished alongside local beach fishers using bungums and me with live bloodworms and been slaughtered by them until i've scabbed a few bungums off them and been instantly into the action. cheers brenton Savagelip
mrfish 327
At the right time there are plenty of YFW just outside of the river mouth. I have swum over many a YFW over the years, often they are out a fraction further than a good cast.
spinyeel 2
Down here at Aldinga-Sellicks,the Yellowfin bite best on live Bungum Worms and Pink Nippers and they can switch off one bait or the other at any time. Carry both baits at all times and you won't miss out too often on a rising tide with a bit of a breeze blowing.
Damo67 6
Nope aint spotted any around...I have not been using live bait however - do you really think it makes that much of a difference? It is the difference between catching YFW and not Metro.
fabianf 0
Yea 100% agree with Damo and Kelvin.Your catch will improve out of sight with live worms metro. If there not live you are up against it - from my experience when i have been unable to source the good stuff and gone the frozen option it has been a light bucket to carry back to the car.metro YFW would have to be the most pickiest of fish when it comes to baits.
