mickxr6 1
My esky,( only a willow in 55ltr) only keeps the ice for a few hours, then it's all melted..I guess, 'you only get what you pay for' rings true here. Granted, I have a Tinny and the esky is in full sun but surely the ice should last longer? What do you guys think of the ' ice box' type of eskies? And what would you recommend in around 60 ltr capacity?
Purnong 0
Yeah those Willow type eskies are crapHave a look at the Techniice range, They get a good wrap around the place and are fairly well pricedhttp://www.techniice.com/ice-box-categoriesI think SAFCOL also sell ice boxes and I've heard they are pretty good too, I bought an ice box from Supercrap Auto with a cushion on top and that has been good and it makes another handy seat in the tinny as well mickxr6
Del 245
i have a Kookaburra branded green ice box of 92L it lasts for days.. when using block ice i regulary get a week! bagged ice is never good ice.. i also have a cosmos 60 L ice box. lasts a hell of a lot longer than a standard esky! mickxr6
Del 245
even if you freeze up a couple of ice cream containers or 2L coke bottles to stick in you esky.. it will help it last a bit longer! mickxr6
Rollas 2
Technice is good value. Frozen water bottles last longer than the trips. I cool the esky down the night before as well. force, mickxr6 and Chief
Piranha 76
I have 3 techni-ice boxes, most of them last for 10-14 days with block ice in summer, but I do find that my kookaburra ice box lasts even longer mickxr6
pauly s 426
i got techniice also its good for the dollars but neva lasted me 10 - 14 days... might have to try block ice instead of the bags. also there was these 6pack eskys at big w i got 1 for bout $11 on special and was very surprised how good that held ice.pauly mickxr6
mickxr6 1
Thanks for the replies guys. Will check into some of these esky's mentioned. I guess preparation is also the key when It comes to the Ice I'm putting in the esky's in the first place. I will freeze my own blocks now, but I still will invest in a better ice box also
Del 245
10L water bladders from woolies are good.. if you got the freezer room.. solid ice bricks that can be used for drinking if they melt after a few days... depends on how long your trip is. if its just one day trips a bag of ice and a couple of 2l coke bottles frozen should see you through no worries. if its extended days of camping.. SOLID ice is the only choice. and a good quality ICEBOX will see you through. Techni-ice SHEETS are also a usable option if you can have the amount of storage required for them.. ive bought 100 sheets off ebay for a good price.. sometimes i use them if its only a day use job.. but i find they never last long either.. just no mess when using them. mickxr6

Live Fibre 1
I have a 92 litre "Tropical"......an orange one.........approx 1000mm x 500 x 500.......not been away with it yet,but used it NYE for all the drinks at home........bagged ice lasted until Jan 5,and that's with kids and hung-over adults in and out all that time ........got it at Christies camping, reckon less than $200.The best esky I've ever had though, probably too big for your application, was an old bar fridge......given up the ghost..........had a fridgey mate take the motor / compressor / gas out of it.......took the shelves from the door, replaced with a marine ply sheet (varnished / sealed) and filled the void in the door with "expanding foam"........now that was an esky!..........I took it to a mates shack on the river one year......some-one "borrowed it" mickxr6

Double Trouble 3
My techni ice esky works quite good with frozen 2ltr bottles, The bottles are still frozen solid after todays session along with a bag of reds in it worked a treat a few years back over the west coast with dry ice.Im currently in the process of making a esky out of the 50mm coolroom panels, At least that way its made to my specs and my needs, current 80ltr one is to small mickxr6

homer 0
hi mate ice that has been in the freezer for a month or more lasts a lot longer than ice which has only been frozen for a couple of days. mickxr6
mickxr6 1
Just came back from BigW and saw they had the 'ice box style' of esky for under a hundred bucks for a 62ltr. I'm on a budget and if the thing was any good, I would save half the money. Anyone have one of these and what's your opinions on it?
Tommy2toes 0
Dry ice works well if you look after it properly.just speak to your local supplier and they will give you ideas on how to make it last, saying that my tropical ice box normally does a few days in full sun on the deck of the boat, i just keep towel on top that i hit with the deck was from time to time to keep it wet, mickxr6
