Softy 2,991
Mate just showed me this pic of a Redfin he caught but something just doesn't look right to me? Maybe it is the lack of colour/stripes playing tricks on my eyes?
samrota 1
Some seem to have very dark stripes while other have very light stripes. Whether it is a colour variation or mood of the fish i don't know.I guess habitat plays a role but some does their mood(stressed etc).I do love the ones with very dark markings though. The fish in your pic looks a bit sick? vxman29
Softy 2,991
Was caught in a dam in VIC... said the amount of fish in there was amazing.. filled up eskys many times....
fished out 0
Caught one like that the other night. It may have something to do with high salt/ mineral content as this fish came out of an quarry fed dam.
Tacklebags 404
I wonder if there is any studies out there that could shed some light on what you say fished out?Might have a gander?TB

tonyb 1,017
Permanently discoloured water produces very similar colouration to this fish.My theory is that Mother Nature doesn't need to give this ambush predator much natural camouflage as it doesn't need it in murky environments.Do you know if the Vic lake is murky? Softy 2,991
That was my first thoughts also, Tony but he said it is pretty much crystal clear.

Cal 480
Clear water = dark fish...murky water = light fish..
Langley 30
hmmm thinking maybe high salt and a victorian fish...... maybe even lack of food/unhelathy food source
Live Fibre 1
Albino???????????? Just throwing it out there
fished out 0
"Google" Platnium barramundi. Normally albenism is pretty domenent, fish rarely display any kind of darkening/fading if they are albino.
