Jakdemo8 1
G'day guys. Heading over to lucky bay on the EP this long weekend. Just after some places people like to fish with in around an hour. Mainly looking for surf beaches but have access to 4x4 and taking a couple of kayaks. Any places and what to expect would be great. Thanks guys
Underpants 1,543
Lucky's rather exposed in the southerly 1/4 so could suggest some sheltered options inside Franklin Harbour...There is a dirt track to Point Victoria, roughly going SW from LB towards. Definitley 4x4 only and might be a bit boggy after rain tho. Would give good yak access to the main channel & inshore reef south of the Pt. Would be very suprised if there weren't salmon crusing that channel particularly concentrated at low tide. Should be a hoot on light tackle in a yak.Otherwise the boat ramp in Cowell focus on the channels at low tide. Google maps satellite is yout friend.Dunno about the surf beaches but know there are some good spots towards Arno.Hear the YFW get pretty big in winter. Wading the flats Nth of Pt Vic?. Jakdemo8 1
Couldn't ask for a more helpful answer. Cheers. The 4x4 track, is this the one that leads to the beach with the mangroves etc. walking through sludge and weed?
Underpants 1,543
Just looking at Google, images must be pretty old cause the road is sealed into the ferry terminal and there's a ferry harbour there too!Hmm not sure where you mean. Was there back in a Feb '11, a little different to June now. Do recall driving out from the ferry terminal a Km or so where there was quite a decent dirt road to the left (west). This continued to a 4wd track (was pretty good) & headed roughly SW/W to Pt Vic for 6-7kms.Sections traversed the edges of salt pans which i suspect could be pretty boggy now. We drove to a high point near Pt Vic and climbed down to the the sand spit off the point. Not much in the way of mangroves in that area, a little north of the point and some fishy looking reef in close to the south. A little sludge and weed (and razor fish) perhaps, in close to the shore but was all sand further out.Dig for sea weed worms off the beach just west of the ferry. Gun YFW bait unless you're any good finding and pumping nippers. If weather is really :c try for STs where the Lincon Hwy crosses the mangrove ck before Cowell. If you are allowed to fish the ferry harbour these days try the entrance at run out tide.Have a crack for YFW just off the shacks there too. Close to beer supplies, assuming that's where you are staying.
Jakdemo8 1
Yep staying at the shacks there. Not often u can fish from the front porch with a beer. Once again, cheers for such a detailed answer. Exactly what I was hoping for. Now lets hope for some good weather and plenty of fish
pauly s 426
Cowell is a cracker spot mate, plenty of whiting around the harbour.. some of the schools in there are pretty scary. You'll need a pair of waders.Theres a turn off on your left just before you get into cowell, you'll pass the caravan park and come to the boat ramp there take the next trail past the last property and nt far past is a few trails that'll get ya iinbetween the mangrooves.. little tip is just cast in shin deep water before you wade out coz ive scared schools of 50 trying to walk out.I always got tweed prawns or frozen worms from the servo, the whiting there will even take squid or 1 day servo didnt have bait so i bought a few chicken breasts and used cubes. Coarse if you can find live worms or nippers youll get hit more often. The run in tide was defiently my favourite. And if you wanted to give yfw on poppers a shot this place is definetly a good place to try.Theres tommies at the fish id board on the jetty.. and same place the snook will be in the lights. If u wana try for snook get the white squidey flickbaits cant stress how good they work for snook.Pm me while your up there man if u wana know anythin, gt to kno the place fairly wellPaulyBlue swimmers would probably still be thick in cowell so mayb take the nets.
