waspy 3
Hi all well this is my dumb question for the month as the name suggests on the topic what size hooks would you target snapper on ,the reason for this question is i am going through my tackle sorting the :c from the clay and upgrading gear to get ready for the coming season ,i have some ganged hooks for floating pilies around and squid strips but thought i would ask all those in the know what they prefer and would use . adamibinfishin 224
hi waspy, you can get by with the ganged hooks for the pillies mate but if you are going to use bigger baits like squid heads, slab baits etc you may get better service from gamakatsu, big red types of hooks that are stronger generally and chemically sharpened.I personally use these in the sizes up to 5/0,6/0, 7/0 or thereabouts.you can usually catch multiple fish on these hooks too, they seem to take the wear and tear quite well.some may say the 7/0 are too big but i have found them ok,handy for throwing out bigger baits, hope this helps you bud, cheers 4THALOVE, waspy and bjorn2fish
4THALOVE 45
Any sized owner tournament inline circle from 4/0-10/0 I mainly use the 10/0's now and catch all sizes on em my lip hook rate has never been better Just leave plenny of tha hook exposed either running or paternoster style Cheers 4THA codez, Moggy23, Damo67 and 2 others
Yorky 309
I use octopus style hooks for snapper, mainly gamakatsu. I use sizes 4,6,or 8 depending on area being fished. I stick to the even number size hooks so that I'm not carrying every size hook (i.e. if I wanted to use a size 5 I would use a 4 or 6)Yorky 4THALOVE and waspy
pauly s 426
If I had a choice of only one size probably go the 6/0, good size for big or small waspy and 4THALOVE
storm boy 17
I only fish for snapper land based and my rig is a little different to most, but my favourite is a snelled gang of three 3/0 Owner SSW Cutting Point hooks. If I run out of the Owners then a Gamakatsu Octopus is a good alternative.Cheers!SS Jack. and waspy

piratepom 3,197
Waspy I know nothing, but if you make sure that you expose all of the pointy bit of your hook, 1/0-8/0 you'll be in the game. :f Good luck. waspy

baitwaster 202
7/0 gamakatsu the best ive found, take ruggers right through to meter plus fish.finer gauge that most for easier hook-ups on lighter line, never had 1 let go yet. waspy
savage480 1
8/0 gamakatsu circles for me. Have caught undersize (around 35cm) up to the biggins on them. Also often use a two hook sliding rig for large baits, such as whole slimeys / tommies etc. waspy
wishing2Bfishing 0
i use 8/0 gamakatsu octopus hooks exclusively for my snapper fishing, generally i snell 2 together around 100mm apart. they are great hooks and stay sharp for multiple fish, if the snap-daddy swallows it i always get it out on the filleting table and re-use it. 60lb trace is what i snell them together with and i always use a running sinker.
