Hugo 120
Been getting more than my share of wind knots recently casting 2.5 and 3 sized squid jigs on 15lb braid. I am relatively diligent in keeping the line tight on the spool, but not happy with the current stuff I am using. Interested to know what brand of braid in the 10 - 15lb range you have settled on that is less inclined to miss behave.
ShimsMan 1
Hey hugo,What kind of leader knot and reel are you using? Also, are you using squid jigs that have free spinning swivels? I had a dud one once that spun when I Jigged it, line twist built up and I ended up with a severe wind knot!
Hugo 120
Shims, I tie a slim beauty normally for a leader knot onto 14lb hard rock fluro. Reel is a 2500 daiwa. Yozuri live or Daiwa Sephia jigs connected via a small egg type snap.

plankton 725
I use fireline on most of my threadline setups, from 6lb up to 14lb, never have trouble with wind knots. Because it's a fused line rather than a proper braid it's stiffer and less likely to misbehave. I also have 8lb power pro on one of my reels right now and not had any issues either. jackblack86 5
I run 10lb braid whem flicking lures at the lake and had plenty of problems with wind knots and line twist.Run a small swivel with about 1m of flurocarbon (or other line) to your jig. Can almost guarantee you wont have any more problems Hugo
breambo25 1
Your gear does seem fine. Every tenth cast, try winding in under heavy tension (hold the braid as you wind in). I have found this has dramatically reduced the number of wind knots I get when not only squidding but also flicking lures for bream.
Piranha 76
Check that your roller bearing hasn't seized try a PE.8 or .6 ,,8 strand tournament braid, that should fix the problem!
ShoreJigger 171
If you want to try a different braid, go with sunline super pe. I use it in 10lb on 2 reels and 20lb on another.Haven't had a single wind knot.
pauly s 426
Fin's braid is the best I've had.. Neva knots and cast very wellGo 8 - 10 lb tho it casts better and I've lifted big snook, squid and stuff up onto jettys with the 6lb so you'll be plenty heavy with 10lbI always tie slim beauty so don't stress bout thatJust I case always run the Lind between your fingers to get it tight on the spool every now and then, hopefully your keeping it tight by smashing squid Hugo
Knackers 696
The only time I have ever had wind knots is with FINS braid.Terrible stuff. It doesn't slide over itself very easily on the spool and grabs the line underneath it pulling big birds nests out. Pauly S,Seem like FINS might have some quality control issues if you don't have problems?

Hugo 120
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, lots of good tips. One of the challenges in experimenting with new products is that sometimes you get a lemon. The old adage of sticking with what you know applies and I have gone back to the tried and tested brands that have always worked for me: light braids up to about 8lb - original fireline or TD sensor, 10 - 15lb power pro and Tufline for anything 20lb and over.
