rsk 120
Got my issue and would like to know why in the interview with Rodney Fox no one asked the question which has been a bit of a topic of conversation on here for a few months now? The one regarding how Rodney Fox is an ambassador for marine parks while getting an exemption to berley and alter the natural behaviour of great white sharks within the neptunes marine park and his thoughts on whether that defines him as a hypocrite that has a selling price? Thought that would be a really relevant discussion seeing as Rodney Fox is happy to have us locked out so he can have a private island to use to line his pockets. kon 300
rsk (at the risk of generating a little thread drift here...) I don`t know whether those operations are within a MP GMUZ or HPZ (in which case there`s effectively no issue with the Act) or whether they occur within a SZ...still in which case, from section 5 of any Marine Park-specific Management Plan; 5. GUIDELINES FOR PERMITS The Minister may grant a permit to a person to engage in an activity within a marine park, or a zone or other area of a marine park, that would otherwise be prohibited or restricted. A management plan for a marine park may provide guidelines with respect to the granting of permits for various activities that might be allowed within the park (section 13(1)(e) of the Marine Parks Act 2007). All applications for permits will be considered on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with section 19 of the Marine Parks Act 2007. And... Favourable consideration should be given to the granting of permits for the following activities within the marine park: - scientific research in a sanctuary zone or restricted access zone; - competitions and organised events in a sanctuary zone; - tourism operations in a sanctuary zone; - commercial film making (including sound recording and photography) in a sanctuary zone; and - installation of vessel moorings in a sanctuary zone. Permits for other activities will be considered on merit, against the management objectives for the marine park. Yup... rsk
Lone Ranger 1
So recreational anglers who don't interfere with white sharks are being kicked out but blood & guts adrenalin tourism in a SZ which does interfere with white sharks is allowed to stay? How ridiculous is that and highlights the subjective political nature of the SZs rather than good science. It's also a conflict of interest that someone who makes a lot of money from berleying white sharks should then also be a marine park ambassador. rsk
rsk 120
Kon, from fishing in and around the neptunes I can safely say that Rodney Fox bases his entirire operation within the SZ

weaver 271
Please use another thread to vent your cocnerns on marine parks and keep this one for the magazine. Thanks guys. Weaver Tinker
rsk 120
Thought what I wrote was relevant to the magazine. You guys interviewed Rodney Fox, someone who is a prominent marine parks ambassador in a fishing magazine whose business flies completely in the face of the marine parks he represents. If your representing the magazine can you answer why it wasn't brought up in the interview or was it all just a fluff piece so Rodney Fox can flog off a few books while laughing his head off at us rec anglers? weaver 271
Sorry rsk but I chose not to enter into a debate with you on marine parks.Like I said plenty of other places to do that. Cheers Weaver
kon 300
A point was made (pertinent to the magazine subject matter as it happens), and responded to. It was laid to rest thereafter. Then someone not making the original point, nor responding to it, chooses to resurrect the subject matter that had been laid to rest two months earlier..... Never mind. rsk
Guest
In a perfect world i would like to see a disclaimers used in all fishing magazines detailing who the writer is sponsored by and whether the article was sort by a particular brand paying cash for positive comments.
