Hugo 120
With the increase in popularity and availability of circle hooks for KGW fishing, are they the go to hook that advertisers want us to believe, or are people trying them and going back to shiners, long shanks or bait keepers. What's your favorite KG hook and terminal set up for boat/kayak fishing? Raider
Guest
i have been using the KL/1 circles on the boat and rate them over the traditional long shanks.. also 99% of the time if the puffers are around they wont swallow them, and make me have to tie another hook on... annoying buggers. Fishingmad 306
Yeah the black magic KL1/0 circle hooks are actually amazing you will literally hook 9/10 fish! and well first time using them i got a 58cm whiting so they must be good lol
Kelvin 2,197
KL are great as are the owner mutu circle hooks. I know some guys also like the mustad light demon circle hooks I use circles but also don't mind small baitholder hooks or go old school and use the mustad bloodworm longshanks in 6 or 4 Mainly paternoster with as light a sinker as I can get away with. 1 hook below the sinker and 1 or 2 above Hugo

Hugo 120
Remember as a lad fishing tidal flats in NSW for silver whiting etc, we used a shiner type hook on a running rig with a long length of mono from the swivel to the hook, anywhere from 4 to 6 foot long. Always used beach worms and the bait would waft about in the current and fish would grab and run on a light drag and hook themselves. Worked on all the local estuarine species including bream, flathead and chopper tailor, though we almost always got bitten off by those toothy buggers. Thinking about trying this method on KG's to see if they take a bait and swim off in a similar way. Anyone have any theories on how KG's would go using this method? Brankim 945
Gamakatsu octopus size 6. Definitely my favourite hooks! I use them for yellowfin, carp, bream, schoolies.... A lot of the time the fish hook themselves too when my rod is in the holder. I never use long shanks! Miss way too many bites!! They're only good when puffers and jackets are around. Brankim 945
I haven't tried circles long enough to comment, find it realy hard baiting up worms with them, and just can't get used to not striking the traditional way... But if kelvin uses them, I'd say they're difinately worth a shot. Hugo
hoopsy 697
i use them only on the spare rod tho no2s only for me i feed my KGs cocktails Hugo
JoshS 7
Got to agree with the c KL1/0 's when left in the rod holder, hook up really well. Still use the long shanks when the whiting are a bit finicky though.
ScottyDog 43
+1 for KL 1/0s but like Josh I still like my long shanks in size 4 (or 6 depending upon location) as I still like to jag and sometimes try to rip their lips off..hehe...old habits are hard to break when getting bites. Wahoo 146
The missus & I use either size 4 Owner Mutu Light Circle or a 1/0 KL Circle, both essentially the same size!. The oldies still like to use a size 4 longshank, can't say our catch rates are much different but the circles work better for me as my rod spends a lot of time in the holder while I'm rebaiting, unhooking fish etc for the fair one and doing all the other little chores the skipper has to do. Plus I get sidetracked catching squid or chucking a SP around. Hugo
