Tacklebags 404
Personally in the SA situation, I found the worst period for fish stocks was back in the 1990's. Most people i know who have been fishing long enough agree. The biggest reason for poor fishing catch rates now are due to poor planning by the fisher, natural variation and loss of access to previously productive locations through numerous mechanisms. snapper15.4kg, Tinker and bungplug
sbarnden 397
More than 1,400 new species were added to the list, including some species found in Australia, but close to 200,000 previous entries were crossed off. Apparently a lot of species on the list were duplicates. No surprise the keep finding more in the ocean, it's the last 'undiscovered country'. Stocks might have gotten a little better in South Australia with improved environmental standards and restrictions on commercial fishing methods and wastage but fish stocks are still managed on the basis of maximum sustainable commercial yield which is a sustaining population of roughly 30% of 'virgin' pre-fishery levels. Tacklebags 404
Mungo men used fishing nets in OZ 42000 years ago and coral reefs were wiped out by La Nina 1.4 million years ago so pre fishing advocate claims are based on what exactly? snapper15.4kg
