JAYMAN 137
5 mins as your nearing the boat ramp 10 -14 knts should be enough to remove all scales without tenderising your fish, squid tubes only and as long as you can, basicly tenderises the tubes.make sure the scale bag has a float/buoy attached ,good luck hoopsy and David_C
ScottyDog 43
make sure you've got a wake at the back before deploying the scaler bag...the bag should be just in the wash and the scaler bag tumbling over (hence the swivel on the scaler line). Most have two bags...the inner bag you fill with the fish to be scaled and then that goes into the outer bag. Some people dont use the inner bag, takes a bit longer to scale but not a lot of difference but make sure your fish are big enough that they wont go through the mesh of the larger outer bag. Great for whiting to get rid of the slime and the scales and as jayman mentioned great for doing the squid (take out the head and guts first though!). Would never put gar in them as you will destroy them (running your hand down the gar scales them pretty well). great tool to have to save some time on the filleting table. hoopsy, Rod and David_C

hoopsy 697
agree with jayman and get a quality 1 from pt hughes complete angler pr from mark at the PH ramp they are $60 but will never break or tear open also have a built in float just incase ..cheapies break usauly at the brass swivel and always use a inner as it scales them quicker and if it (cheap ones) gets a hole in it u dont lose ya catch $60 sounds alot for a scale bag but if u lose i catch at $80 a kilo u work it out
bungplug 72
I also do the fishing rag/hand wipe towel in it after the fish - takes all the crap off before it hits the wash machine and this keeps the wife happy!! Trick is to get it tumbling on the edge of the wash wave so vary the rope length depending on your boat
psari 19
Good tip as mentioned is to use a float in the bag so if it does comes lose at least it will float. I use a 2 ltr milk bottle with lid on of course Try not to overload it either, comes with practice and sure you will work it out. after a days fishing, this is one less thing to do at home
