Dylbaa 174
Has anyone sanded their rod grips to suit their needs? Just wondering if it's a viable option to make grips a bit smaller?
plankton 725
I've never sanded down grips, but I have a surf rod that I removed the foam grips and reel seat from and replaced with shrink tubing to reduce the diameter. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to sand cork grips, not sure how foam grips would fare though, they could come out quite rough if you're not careful. Have a look on some rod building forums and see what they recommend.
projoe 261
It can be done I've done a couple of my rods & some for customers in the past. its hard work & you need to to put a few layers of masking tape at the ends of the grips so if slip you dont damage the winch or bindings, blank etc. I usually start with a rough sandpaper wrapped around the grip & work the blank around in it & then work my way down to a fine for the finish. cork is easier than hyperlon grips.
