dutchy 451
I finally got around to rigging for a tuna tripTook a few photosFirst is with shed lightsecond UV onlyLast bothThe mono on that reel looks amazing with UV lol might change that...The squid jags and lures glow nicely as wellThe small skirts are on 80 fluorocarbon but had trouble keeping rig straight during crimping. When tested to destruction the crimp slipped chaffed the line rather than just breaking line😬I found the 150, 200lb jinkai so much easier to useNow I need to do my favorite hard bodies and service reelsI have been trying to get ready for last few months but sick, family and trying to run business has slowed me down.Feel so much better nowBRING IT ON.... Underpants 1,543
Can't pretend to know much about tuna fishing but those lures sure look pretty! dutchy
doobie 5,802
You have been a busy man and love the UV picture, such nice colours. You'll certainly get the bonus of tuna with those lures
Kuerschie 2,309
Nice work Dutchy! Hopefully when the Tuna are on you get your fair share of fish!
bjorn2fish 4,612
They look nice mate. I love the UV photo, it shows that there's a lot more to consider when chasing certain species.
Rod 773
Nice work Dutchy, your certainly getting ready in plenty of time Cheers Rod
dutchy 451
It would be great to know what frequency they actually do see in different light conditions! As the 3 large lures look similar under uv but completely different in normal light Rod you never know... bjorn2fish
bjorn2fish 4,612
I just read on the net, Japanese scientists found that Pacific blue fin tuna have more genes responsible for green colour sensitivity. Perhaps this would relate to our local population of tuna also. It would be interesting to see if your green skirts perform better.
Rod 773
My experience is that finding them is the hard part, then drag anything in their vicinity with a hook in it and your on This year, we stopped after one successful trip, but that trip started with a triple hook up and after that we couldn't get a second lure in the water before the first one had hooked up for the next 3 fish. Also we were using lures that are pretty banged up after 3 seasons without changing them. That was the 3rd attempt from memory and many km's covered previously. Never fished for barrels though, which I expect is a whole different kettle of you know what Cheers Rod dutchy
dutchy 451
I have found tuna jumping onto any lures but I have had some very very frustrating trips where only 1 lure worked Shame I lost both of those lures after lots of hits, a few hook ups & didn't land a fish
Rod 773
Not saying this is related but was talking to an acquaintance who was fishing with a friend at the cape for snapper when they saw tuna busting up. They put out 1 rod each, the friend with a brand new lure. After the friend had hooked 3 tuna and failed to bring any to the boat, the skipper asked to have a look at the lure. It still had the plastic protective case over the trebles, once removed, the fish came in to the boat Cheers Rod piratepom, dutchy, Hugo and 2 others
