Dylbaa 174
G'day fisho's! Havent bought a rod to suit something medium in a fair while! What suggestions do you guys have for a rod to suit my 4000 stella, I have owned a few t curve models and love them, thinking of matching with one of these, or perhaps a loomis or a lox rod, something in the 3-6 or 4-7kg range, any suggestions welcome! Cheers!
dutchy 451
What line do you use, techniques & what are you chasing? I like my t-curve certate 3500hd combo just catches fish so nice to use
Dylbaa 174
Its got 30lb shimano kariki braid on it, i do a mix of soft plastics for snapper and mullies, aswell as deeper whiting drops with bait, snapper with bait also. The odd school tuna might be thrown in to thay list from time to time aswell. What do you use your combo for dutchy? Cheers for the reply!
gregtech 1,029
T-curve Saltwater Spin 5-10kg. Tough as nails. 2 piece for convenience. Had some epic battles with large unexpected critters and the rod handled things with ease. Im assuming your Stella is a 4000SW? Might be a bit "tippy" for some soft plastic work if correct action is required. Cheers, Greg.
Dylbaa 174
Hey Gregtech, the older fe model, that rod has caught my eye before too! The one limiting factor being the whole plastics scenario, Although to get a happy medium I'm goint to have to expect that it cant be perfect in each situation
dutchy 451
I might have same as Gregtech T-curve tournament snapper 5-8kg favorite lucky stick deep water whiting, snapper, deep reef lures, casting lures at tuna etc & even a few sharks Dylbaa
gregtech 1,029
Dutchy, is your T-curve the 701 one piece? Great plastics rod. My only gripe is how easily damaged it is. Mine rarely leaves land anymore. The single foot guides dont tolerate rough treatment that happens with a full crew and gear gallore! Even sitting up in the rocket launcher, there's a few deep rub marks. Being a one piece adds to the problem. Got my first decent red on SP with it so its a bit special . Dylbaa, we've been lucky with the SP's when using the Saltwater Spin. The 'ol jig jig whip whip was all we had to do. No real technique. Would be a nice match with your Stella!!! adamibinfishin 224
Loomis do some nice 10lb to 20lb rods. I have one around the 6 and a half foot and they do the same rod in the 7 foot also. I bought a 7ft black hole Amped 7ft snapper model recently which is great and also very cheap also rated to 20lb. Great for plastics and also parabolic for straight up and down in the boat. Dylbaa
adamibinfishin 224
Both these balance up with daiwa 3000 reels so should be fine with your 4000 stella i think.
Knackers 696
Consider the wilson venom spin range. I have two venoms, a 5 ft 6 inch deep jig and a 6 ft 6 inch offshore. Both 2-5 PE. Obviously the spin range is lighter. I couldn't be happier with mine. Match them with my dogfight and expedition 5500. Dylbaa
dutchy 451
My t-curve & 3500 hd certate must be at around 10yr old now it is 1 piece There must be lots of quality rods around these days It has had a rough life bouncing around in the boat hope I get a few more years out of it
Dylbaa 174
So it seems the options are a plenty (makes it harder for me haha) Still pretty keen on looking into a loomis or t curve Knackers the wilson venom range are around the 500 dollar bracket arent they? Cant quite remember Adambinfishin, how do you think the amped would go with say 3 ounces and bait? I have the flathead model and that's great as an all rounder 👠
adamibinfishin 224
Not sure Dylbaa, Probably be ok but always better putting the reel on in the shop. It is primary a lure rod with split grip and not a full length lower grip either so if it sits in a rodholder for any length of time there probably would be better choice as an allrounder I reckon. Knackers 696
I haven't paid over $500 fom memory. Low 400s, but that was 2 years ago.
adamibinfishin 224
My mate has the new shimano t curve ian miller tk3g series. Very nice rods worth checking out. My mate is running the 10kg version but I think they have a couple lighter ones. Dylbaa
