Knackers 696
Just picked up a new 200 calcutta. Because I couldn't tie a decent knot to the tiny spool I ended up pulling the spool out. These reels have non shielded bearings and these ones appeared to be only slighty oiled. As I will be using the reel in my very wet boat I gave them a dab a grease. Found the same on my TLDs and Tyrnos. The TLDs have frozen up once each but cheap to rebuild. gregtech, Squid Inc., bjorn2fish and 1 other 3
Underpants 1,543
does look to be asking for at least a layer of grease to help keep the wet stuff out.
gregtech 1,029
Jeeez.....What would it cost Shimano to fit shielded bearings from new? .0001 Yen? I'm a Shimano fan from the dawn of time but this one is disappointing. Cheers for the heads up Knackers.
SaltyFlyer 298
Just think Knackers, if you tied decent knots, you would NOT have seen this ....... SF

SF Couldn't get an arbor or uni knot to pull up flush against the spool. Fat fingers.
Bait Caster 113
Non shielded bearings are easier to maintain and facilitate better casting without a layer of grease, as was mentioned.
