GaryChan_1 10
Hey all, I've recently got into the surface whiting fishing bandwagon but I'm having some trouble with the lure spinning across the surface. My setup is: Shimano Raider 762 Bream Spinning Rod 7 ft 6 Shimano 2500 real 10Lb braid 8Lb mono leader, roughly 50cm long Bassday Super Pen 95mm Atomic assist hooks Size 10 trebles The leader is connected with a double uni knot and I'm using a blood knot to attach the lure to the line. I assume the lure isn't meant to be spinning while I retrieve it? Any tips that might make it swim straight? Gary
projoe 261
it may be the tow eye is slightly cocked to one side if the lure is spinning clockwise try pulling the eye to left ever so gently & with a very minisule adjustment with a small pair of pliers retry lure & the reverse if the lure is spinning anticlockwise. also i would tie a loop knot rather than a blood knot it gives the lure a little more freedom of movement thru the water. Territory Lad 1,137
Spinning as in the line is twisting? Odd. Sugarpens do roll side to side but they shouldnt be rolling over completely. Does it do this even when you straight retrieve without imparting any action from the rod?
ShoreJigger 171
I use a loop knot on the sugapens and have never noticed any spinning. Use a locked knot on poppers though.
AquaticResearch1 1,046
Yeah as said a suga pen spinning is weird. Is it due to how you impart the action? Or does it also happen on a straight retrieve? Eyelet adjustment is handy but I'd imagine a suga pen would just track on an angle if the tow point was bent...
MIKECATTS 1,488
slow your retrieve down?????? Keep the rod low, not pointed to the sky.. Might help?
dutchy 451
buy another lure see if that works You will need spares anyway
Harrison22 21
I've had this problem before with a similar lure and now I have started to tie loop knots onto my small lures, gives it a more free action withough gettling forced to follow the line if that makes any sense. Like I said, seems to work for me. If that doesnt work, try a light set up? Good luck, and let us know what makes a difference.
GaryChan_1 10
Thanks for the feedback all. I won't be back on the flats until the 16th of Feb so I'll let you know how things go with your tips onboard sometime thereafter. Gary Harrison22
Rybak 622
Definately a loop knot or an easy lure clip should sort the problem. Otherwise go to your local tackle store & ask them to show you how to set up. I reckon most people dont ask when buying a lure how to best set up. You should ask as any tackle store worth their weight will show you. HB tragic
