Slowly_evolving 21
Evening one and all, I’m looking for recommendations regarding a new surf rod. Has anyone had any experience with either the penn allegiance or penn prevail? I’m looking at either the 10’ 10-15kg or 12’ 12-20kg models in each variant. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated,Ryan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Mjadeb1984 5
I have the prevail 12-20. And while I’m yet to use it, the build quality is great and it feels strong as hell. Came highly recommended by two separate dudes in two separate independent stores. For the price I believe you can’t beat it Slowly_evolving

Just wondering if anyone has noticed any difference in the handling/weight characteristics between the 2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
doobie 5,802
A bit of info here on surf/salmon rods. Slowly_evolving
plankton 725
They're both good rods, most likely built on the same rod blanks, I think the only difference is in the fittings, the Prevail having better guides (and maybe reel seat?). As far as the 10' vs. 12', that would depend on what you're trying to catch and how. doobie and Slowly_evolving
southie THE BANGA 2,304
Only difference between the 2 rods are the prevail has "casting" K series guides and it has a gloss finish. same blank to my knowledge. I have the Allegiance and never had any dramas with it. I don't think the guides make to much of an difference, its more Wank factor look then anything. but If you can get a prevail for around the same price as the Allegiance you might aswell go for the prevail! Knackers 696
I've got a Prevail in the 10-20 Kg class. I bought it as a backup to a Daiwa Sensor Surf in the same weight class. I can't fault the Prevail but the Daiwa 'feels' a lot nicer and casts heavier baits better. I don't think you can go wrong with the Penn. Slowly_evolving
Slowly_evolving 21
Thanks for the info lads. This is going to be a second surf setup so the Daiwa’s are a little pricey, but the Penn seems like a good thing, and with the sale on the prevail at the moment I think it’s hard to beat.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
